Sean Goss 10:14 - Jan 17 with 23488 viewsterryb

Am I being stupid & not seeing it, or is there not a general thread for transfer rumours?

Anyhow, I've seen that we are being linked to Sean Goss, a 19 year old at Manure & not as a loan.

I don't know if there is any possibility of this happening or anything about the player.

Can someone please enlighten me?

Centre mid, signed from Exeter 3 years ago as a hugely rated youngster and spent much of that injured.

Screams QPR.

Was he the bass player in Bros?

I can't answer that.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

That'll put the Cat Amongst the Pigeons.

Seriously, when has a buying or loaning from Manchester United ever gone well?

For us? Can't remember any success, at least in recent years, occasionally the insipid memory of a QPR side captained by Ji-Sung Park resurfaces after being repressed for years.

In general, it's a good market to look at though. Ryan Shawcross, Danny Drinkwater, Tom Heaton, Danny Simpson, Oliver Norwood, Craig Cathcart, Josh King, James Chester, Matty James - all good players currently playing in the top 2 divisions who have left United in their early 20s to clubs of our size.

It's cheaper than signing 'proven' Championship players, but you're relatively assured of a technically capable footballer at the bare minimum.

Gary Micklewhite's probably the only decent signing we've ever made from Man U in my lifetime. Free transfer signing as well.

I think the point Clive has made before about Man Utd "prospects" is the pertinent one.

Namely that playing for one of the best youth set ups in the country and then progressing through the U18, U23s doesn't mean you're ready to hit the Championship running, where the challenges are likely to be a lot more "robust" & the games a lot more difficult than you've been used to in to in your footballing life to date.

See Will Keane!

His twin brother's not doing too badly though having also come from Man U's youth team. Doing well for Burnley and a full England call up recently.

He is now yes, because he's obviously a decent player, but needed to play in "proper" games to get to the level he is now.

Although this is true, given a few seasons experience former United products actually tend to have a pretty good success rate among the big academies.

Drinkwater, Simpson., Michael Keane, Robbie Brady, Oliver Norwood, Kieran Lee who we had on loan as a teen, Tom Lawrence who scored that belter against us the other week.

Most of them are good pros too - Will Keane is by far the pansiest example.
