Any Builders Out There??? 08:14 - Nov 22 with 2826 views

My brother-in-law has a panel type conservatory (similar to the one shown).
He is looking to scrap it and get something much bigger.
I would love to have the one he is ditching but was wondering about the logistics?
Is disassembling and re-assembling this type of conservatory common?
Is it worth doing or should I just buy a new one?

I've just got rid of a similar one to make room for an extension. I sold it on ebay to avoid paying someone to do it & the landfill costs (buyer to dismantle). Anyway the guy turned up & dismantled it on his own in about 6 hours. It didn't seem to give him any trouble, Apparently once you remove the glass you can access the fixings that secure it to the dwarf wall.

It will all depend on the amount of mastic that has been used by the original installers. We tried to dismantle one recently but found that panels wouldn't budge readily because they had been masticed in place.

Unfortunately No, as installers tend to use mastic to get them out of trouble, when other fixings aren't convenient/easy to use. So one area might have little mastic and another will be caked in it.

You really need to be careful masticating in a conservatory. Make sure the blinds are down.

Really mundane but FFS some of you lot, buy a packet of Stanley knife BLADES, they cost next to nothing. Blunt Stanley knives are really FKING dumb.

An oscillating multi-tool will cut through the mastic joints much quicker and cleaner than a Stanley knife. All window fitters use them now.
