They'll be needing a new trainer too. I've heard they don't do enough straight line running.

The burning question there is why the ambivalence ? Was it because there were certain obstructions sitting in the way of progress ? It turned sour thats for sure but as of yet there is no proof of why. Some senior players getting the nose pushed out of joint, a parocial attitude amongst others, training not good enough, tutu, brick attacks, football identity being eroded, players complaining to the chairman, some senior players not wanting to move on, interest from PSG,Friction over player signings, the list is an endless one. The only rule to apply is that truth always lies somewhere inbetween, hence why ive always maintained on here from day one of his departure that ALL sides could and should have done better for SCFC. I know he was happy to see out his contract and happy to extend it to protect the club,The family were also happy living here and it was a refreshing experience for them. i think promises were broken and a player power struggle were the key ingredients of his downward spiral.

His first season was my favourite season since the Toshack era. For me he seemed to lose interest after winning the cup. He moved on and so did we. His track record is I to 2 seasons at most, if not all clubs he's managed.

Naive in the extreme, but I don't think it's only ever about business (in the sense that genuine bonds aren't formed). I don't see why people need to polarise it. Managers, players, even fans are perfectly capable of forming attractions to more than one club. I feel no doubt that both Roberto and Brendan were perfectly happy here and very proud to manage the club. They probably still feel that today, whilst also being very pleased and proud of what they are doing now. Those that bang on about it just have jilted lover syndrome.

For me ambivalence is a hard wired trait of his. No surprise this pattern has repeated itself everywhere he's been, and even the great Cruyff said that he had that trait as a player. Damn shame as he has shown he has all the tools...when he can be arsed

As usual I agree with most of your post although I still don't think there was a downward spiral. ML was sacked because his management style was not liked. His long holidays and agentgate exacerbated this. Compare this to Gary's 7.30am to midnight shifts with a a couple of hours family time and you can see why the former fell out of favour. Huw and co want a manager around 24/7. Roberto was the same hardly taking any holidays. I don't necessarily agree with this as you have to question what the other highly paid staff are doing there to help the manager. As an aside I think had ML stayed we would have seen a similar exodus of players. It just would have been a different group of players.

QPR Will Struggle to Appoint Michael Laudrup Reveals ex-Swansea Boss' Agent QPR recorded a first away Premier League win of the season at Sunderland last night, appear close to appointing Harry Redknapp's successor after chairman Tony Fernandes suggested he has landed his preferred choice. Chris Ramsey has been filling the void on a caretaker basis, with former Tottenham head coach Tim Sherwood the heavy favourite for the position - although Fernandes' comment on Twitter seemed to distance the club from the 46-year-old. Fernandes said his target was "not what anyone thinks", but admitted the appointment was likely to "take a while". Laudrup, sacked by Swansea in February, then emerged as the new bookmaker's favourite. But Laudrup is in charge at Qatari champions Lekhwiya and his representative Bayram Tutumlu indicated there would be several hurdles to overcome before the 50-year-old could be lined up for a move back to England. "Laudrup is under contract with Qatari club Lekhwiya. Out of respect anyone interested in him should contact the club," Tutumlu said. "I don't think they would let him go because the team are in so many tournaments and competitions." Ramsey has refused to rule himself out of contention to become the club's new manager on a permanent basis and has seen his odds shorten. But Ramsey continues to stress he will do whatever job is asked of him by the board. ____________ http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/557529/QPR-Michael-Laudrup-Swansea-agent

No downward spiral? Results tailed off after the league cup win and the performances were starting to be turgid. We had a great start to the Europa League and then stumbled through the later rounds. The team wasn't playing as a team, there were some absolute shockers and we were just about keeping our heads out of the bottom three. We'd not won in the league in 8 matches between beating Newcastle on 4th Dec at home and Fulham on 28th January. It was after that we then had the joke of a match at West Ham. On top of that there were falling outs on the training ground splashed across the national press. It all seemed pretty downwards at the time. To add some evidence, we just need to look at the points per game averages and how they plummeted after the Cup win. This isn't to compare Garry with Laudrup or slate Laudrup, just to highlight that his results were poor enough to warrant the sack. The other issues were just the final nails in his coffin imo. ML: 2012-13 before cup win (27 games) = 1.37 pts per game average 2012-13 after cup win (11 games) = 0.82 pts/ game (clear relegation form) 2013-14 first 24 games = 0.96 pts / game (borderline relegation form) GM: 2013-14 last 14 games = 1.29 pts / game 2014-15 so far 1.43 pts / game It's a shame, as the football in ML's first half season was scintillating at times - the best I've seen down here and better than what we are seeing now. But that had gone and we were in danger of relegation. You can argue that there were mitigating circumstances with the Europa league campaign, but the time was right for him to go. And it felt it at the time.

Yeah, wouldn't really argue with that, i also think some of those same traits were also an advantage as a player/manager though. As a player he couldn't really do much more so when cruyff said he very rarely give 100% or words to that effect its fair to say thats an opinon to scrutiny , especially as he won La liga with Barca,Madrid played for Juventus and Ajax and was a star of a world cup, something that Messi and Ronaldo are yet to do. The guy is a mangerial enigma but like i say, there may be many other reasons for that.

Yeah, i think Garrys work rate and willingness to burn the midnight oil was a strength the board were looking to use. This was where i thought the pair of them together would have been the dream ticket, alas it wasn't to be . A good analogy however was on the British lions tour in the 70's true or not apparently the coach Carwyn James sent the players on a long cross country run, Barry john ran half way and decided to thumb a lift home instead of complete the task, the players complained to the coach who said" well boys, thats why he plays where he plays and you play where you play!" indicating that it aint always about the work you put in its also about how clever you are ! This does not surprise me at all, I remember reading about footballers in the UAE being forced to stay/unable to leave, so it's very easy to believe he can't get it of his contract. Was reading about QPR and the job is for someone who wants a massive challenge, really not sure this is Laudrup. If they get relegated and it is not a big if they face either a £50mill plus fine or a transfer embargo - lots of players out of contract at the end of this season too. I know there's ways around these things but even for someone happy to manage in the Chanpionship it is not a cushty job.

I am not comparing ML to Gary. Since taking the reins he has exceeded all my expectations. I just don't feel ML was sacked because of results. We flirted with relegation as did all the teams outside the top ten. Only a few points separating the bottom half if the table. Any manager in that position could have been sacked if it was results based. We on the other hand had to deal with Europa league and unprecedented injuries. Granted the football was not the greatest however we have had a similar situation over the last month or so when the squad has been threadbare. I will stick to my guns on this one but I can appreciate those taking another view. All water under the bridge however and I am now optimistic for the future. 'Investment' is my major worry now :-)

:-) . It could well have been the dream ticket. There were definitely two factions in the club and having representatives of both at the helm might have worked. It seemed ML was up for it although I have heard reports he was not happy. Not sure which was true. I really have my doubts about our manager having to burn the midnight oil however when we have more than enough well paid staff staff to help him. ML was a delegator and I think this also put him further out of favour with the board. Anyway it is water under the bridge and Gary has my support but I would like to see ML back in the Prem regardless. [Post edited 11 Feb 2015 18:28]
