Enough is enough on 16:22 - Jan 4 by Hunterhoop | The issue isn't so much our league position or who we've brought in; the issue is we have absolutely no discernible style of play apart from chip it up to Zamora. In that first half, before Zamora came on and we just lumped it up (unsuccessfully) to him, we appeared to play 4-4-2 and 3-5-2. Traore was left back then left wing back. Hoilett the same on the right. Phillips was left winger than ??? (Who knows), Mutch was wondering everywhere, but doing very little and Fer was in the middle but it wasn't clear if he was supporting Austin or playing deep...again he just wandered around. Only Karl Henry held any decent position in the middle of the pitch. When Henry went off Fer and Mutch showed they categorically can't play in the central midfield in a 4-4-2. They were woeful. But I'm not going to blame the players here. I genuinely don't think they know what is expected of them and where they're meant to play or how to move to aid the team attacking. Fer, Phillips and Mutch genuinely didn't look like they knew where they were playing. Apart from hump it to Zamora and hope, we have no system, no style and no way of attacking teams. We don't keep players playing the one role (e.g. Left winger, right winger, etc) so they don't learn the role, know what they should be doing and execute it. When we played with Warnock we had a system: 4-2-3-1. You had a target man with a no. 10 behind him, pace wide, and a clogged (Mahon then Derry) with a passer (Faurlin). We had a set way of attacking. Win the ball, Faurlin showed for it, reveived it, found Adel, who had got into space between the lines, he ran at the defence with our wide players offering options outside. I'm not saying that's the best or only system or that it would work now, but it was a system. 4-4-2 and hump it to a spent big man, is nothing more than a poor Sunday a league tactic. Redknapp has tried different formations, like a blind man grasping for something to hold onto, but in none of those systems does it look like we know how to get the ball from our box to the oppo's goal (without just lumping it). In each of these formations players look lost and unsure. And when that's the case then the easiest thing is to pass sideways and backwards before lumping it and hoping, which is what we do. And Zamora looks spent. He's winning very little and has, in the last month or so, been very ineffective. We need to sign a better, more agile target man if we're persisting with this approach or get on the training ground and coach them into being able to pass and move effectively. Redknapp cannot blame anyone but himself. He has been here for 2 years and had 4 transfer windows and spent nigh on £40m. But he keeps signing no.10s (when we already had one) AND he appears to have decided on an approach which removes the need for one. This means lots of players are being out of position. I just do not believe we have bad players; I just don't think they're being managed and coached properly. |
Entirely agree. I will struggle to make the journey for the Burnley game.Over the past 3/4 years there has been so so much disappointment. I have grown to loathe Rednapp,he is blaming tiredness today .Not acceptable agiainst a team so far below us. We have some very good players and a Manager who hasnt a clue.

Good post Hunter. Think this nails it. We don't have a system. As has been said on another post we really need to get the wide players taking on full backs and getting quality balls in the box. Call me insane but I would play Hoilett and Phillips wide at Burnley with Fer behind Austin in a 4 4 1 1 system. I think that is our best chance to get something from the game and gives us pace on the counter attack......

Wasn't there either Terry but will be there next week. I still think that system could work and the structure will be stronger with Barton next to Henry, Isla and Hill back and also Dunne back in for Ferdinand. I'm not hugely optimistic but we have to get a result away from home at some point. Surely.....

Enough is enough on 18:45 - Jan 4 with 2050 views | CiderwithRsie | Excellent post by Hunterhoop of which this.... "But I'm not going to blame the players here. I genuinely don't think they know what is expected of them and where they're meant to play or how to move to aid the team attacking." ... really stands out. With all the really great managers I can remember, the players, whatever their quality, knew what they were doing and how the team should work. Classic example would have been Ian Holloway under Francis - a pretty limited player, but he knew exactly what was expected of him and did it consistently. Wilkins was more obviously a class act but he was also old and slow, but it didn't mater because he had a clear role in the team and filled it perfectly. Thing is, it should be clear by now that Leicester and Burnley are under-resourced for this League, while Palace have been a shambles off the pitch. Throw in Hull, WBA, Villa and even Everton having dodgy seasons, and keeping put of the bottom three may be the definition of success but it also shouldn't be that hard this year. If we do stay up, please don't anyone say that justifies keeping Redknapp.

You don't get it. Yes, most of the players (with the exception of Henry) we're crap. Yes, certain individuals didn't look interested. Yes, certain individual failed to take their chance. But we simply don't have a plan. Players clearly don't know where to be, where to move and where their teammates will be. No matter what formation we choose we don't have a way of attacking the players (whoever we pick) understand. Half the side looked lost in the first half. When Zamora came on the midfield stopped showing for it entirely (Vargas apart) and we just chipped everything up to Bobby. Within 5 min they doubled up on him. Did we change our methods? No. We just went nowhere. This wasn't a typical QPR in the cup performance. This was a typical QPR under Redknapp display: Players looking lost, no gameplan, no discernible system or pattern or play. That's the issue. Redknapp has had a very very long time to get us looking like a team, regardless of the personnel he plays (most of which he signed!!). We really should be much much better. He's the manager. He's accountable for the team's performance.

I do get it and am not saying we are a great or even good side under Redknapp but time and time again players are allowed to play poorly and it's all down to the tactics or the manager and never down to them. Does Redknapp have to go on the pitch and explain to players that the chip to Zamora isn't working or should highly paid players be capable of thinking for themselves? I'd expect Redknapp to be barking out instructions to change things which yet again he didn't but also players need to take responsibility during games and ours never do. We've had plenty of good performances this season under the same manager but every year in the cup regardless of who is manager or who is playing the performance and result is always pretty much the same as it was today
