Double Joy For Saints At Stamford Bridge

It was double joy for Saints at Stamford Bridge as Spurs blew a two goal lead to hand Leicester City the Premier League title with the draw meaning that Saints should be guaranteed 8th place.

There is something about Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and its supporters that has rubbed Saints fans up the wrong way in the last 15 years, perhaps it was the way that they hijacked Glenn Hoddle from us and then "unsettled" Dean Richards, then of course there was the way they "unsettled" Mauricio Pochettino and then tried to sign a few players in the summer of 2014.

Then of course there was the Wanyama "unsettling" of last August. they never seem to do things in a dignified way these days, unlike in the 1960's under Bill Nicholson when they were truly a club to be respected.

Then there is the way they have tried to take our anthem and try to pass it off as their own, over the past 15 years there hasn't been a lot to like about the "North London Yobboes" as ex Saints Chairman Rupert Lowe once dubbed them.

So the way they blew a two goal lead and then petulantly threw their toys out of the pram and led by their Manager lost their heads completely was a sight for sore eyes to Saints supporters.

Indeed after the Chelsea equaliser in the 13 minutes remaining including injury time, Spurs didn't even muster a shot as they lost their heads and mustered a further four yellow cards and should have had at least one player sent off, they were more interested in running around like headless chickens than getting a goal that would keep their title hopes alive.

But if that wasn't good enough for Saints supporters, the draw means that even if they win their last three games, Chelsea can only match our current total of 57 points and as it stands their goal difference is 7 worse than ours.

This means that we are now almost guaranteed a top 8 finish for the 3rd season running, even if we don't achieve our ultimate aim of Europa League qualification this is still a great achievement and another big step towards our long term goals, given that this time 5 years ago we were just celebrating promotion from League One our progress has been outstanding and how we have build on that over the last two years is tremendous.

So a good night for Saints, but a better one for Leicester City who are now Premier League champions, congratulations to them may they enjoy their celebrations tonight and on Saturday when the pressure is off and they can enjoy the final two games.
