Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid

So Michel Vorm has spoken in the Dutch press and decided that it is a massive honour for Ronald Koeman to want to manage Swansea which surely is a piece of undermining for the current manager no matter what you think of his managerial ability?

Now I'm also reasonably certain that Koeman himself has not actually said he wants to manage the Swans but a trail that goes back from his agent to John Van Zweden who has no idea whether him passing it onto the club has actually led to contact with the former international.

Following so far? Let me clarify it a little bit more - Van Zweden told the Dutch press that he had been contacted by the agent to actually ask if his client was suitable. Van Zweden passed that question onto Huw Jenkins and has no idea whether it was followed up or not.

The bit that I just find pointless is why a director of the football club decided that he needed to tell the press this piece of information when the team that he owns shares in is fighting for their Premier League future. It doesn't help the cause that we are in particularly today when we have our Dutch international goalkeeper deciding that we should be grateful that the agent even expressed his clients interest.

Stories like these simply fill column inches and whether Koeman is a good fit for us or not is irrelevant but we certainly should have players (and directors?) who are clever enough to elect to make no comment when we have enough problems on the pitch without causing more disruption off the pitch.

Vorm told Sky Sports "I think that Koeman has been mentioned in the Dutch media, in particular, as a possible future coach.

"None of the Dutch players has previously worked with Koeman, so at Swansea it remains difficult for us to say anything about it. Though it is clear that he has done a good job at Feyenoord.

"It is a real honour for Swansea that a coach of Ronald Koeman's calibre is interested in managing the club.

"Something like that would have been unthinkable here a few years ago.

"But Garry Monk is a Swansea man, and I think it is important for someone like that to remain tied to the club."

There is much criticism aimed at Garry Monk at the moment after a poor run of form since experiencing victory in his first game in charge against Cardiff but we will have him in charge for the remainder of the season and it would be more useful if players like Vorm concentrated on performances and ensuring that we stay in the Premier League because it is reasonably certain that Koeman's desire to manage Swansea would reduce dramatically (completely) if the offering was Championship football next time around.

Sometimes it is better to say nothing at all.
