Southampton defender joins on loan Thursday, 4th Nov 2010 15:35 Manager Paul Simpson has moved to shore up our leaky defence by signing central defender Ryan Saville on loan for a month from Southampton. Jack is a left-sided centre-back who joined Southampton from Chelsea's youth system in March 2009 after spending four years with the Blues. The 6'3" defender has played reserve team football for both Chelsea and current club Southampton, although he is yet to make his professional debut. He signed his first professional contract in July 2009 and has signed a three year contract with the Saints so the South Coast club obviously rate him highly. The Hatters have conceded ten goals in their last two matches and so new blood is needed to hopefully bring a bit of quality to the defence. County will be without skipper Danny Swailes for around six months as he recovers from the knee injury he picked up against Lincoln City, which means that we are thin on the ground in defence. Youngster Jordan Rose came into the team following Swailes’ injury and although he helped the defence keep a clean sheet in the games against Lincoln and Tranmere Rovers, all hell has been let loose over the past week as we shipped five goals against both Morecambe and Hereford United. Rose was hauled off after 54 minutes of the weekend defeat by Hereford, although defensive partner Mansour Assoumani was also having a torrid time in the match although he was probably kept on due to the fact that he is more experienced. Southampton have given the Hatters permission to play Jack in the FA Cup so he should make his debut when we entertain Peterborough at Edgeley Park on Saturday.
