Hatters set to sign youngster Fletcher from Burnley Friday, 15th Oct 2010 10:35 Hatters manager Paul Simpson revealed at last nights fans forum that the club are close to signing a striker on loan from our six fingered friends from Burnley. A deal could be done in time for the new lad to be in the squad for Saturday’s crunch match with Barnet. Youngster Wes Fletcher is the player set to make the loan switch to Edgeley Park after Burnley manager Brian Laws confirmed that he was sending the 19-year-old out on loan to get League games under his belt. Fletcher made his first team debut with the Clarets this season, after coming on as an 89th minute substitute in their Carling Cup win against Morecambe back in August. Wes does have some League experience under his belt as he spent a month on loan at Grimsby Town in January where he made 6 appearances and scored 1 goal. The former Manchester United trainee is currently Burnley’s leading goalscorer in the reserve team having netted five times in the Totesport.com League West Division so far this season. With veteran Barry Conlon struggling with fitness and form since joining the club in the summer the Hatters have had to rely on youngster Tom Fisher to offer support to loanee George Donnelly in the first team. Although Fisher has done well enough since making the step up from youth team football, County need someone to take the goalscoring burden off Donnelly and hopefully this loan signing can do the job as we look to climb away from the relegation zone in League Two.
