![]() Saturday, 14th Aug 2010 22:05 Two League games into the new season and County are still searching for their first win of the new season after they were held to a goalless draw at home by Wycombe Wanderers this afternoon. It was a case of two points dropped as County were the better of the two sides over the 90 minutes. After a fairly even first half at a sun drenched Edgeley Park, County stepped things up a little in the second half and looked the more likely team to make the breakthrough and take maximum points. The first half saw left back Robbie Williams hit a post with a deflected free-kick and Wycombe's Lewis Montrose forced a palmed save out of keeper Fon Williams with a shot from the edge of the area. A couple of half chances fell to either side but both sides defences seemed to have the measure of their opponents. The second half performance from County was vastly improved with right winger David Poole showing a marked improvement from his first half showing. George Donnelly missed a great chance to put the hosts 1-0 up after being played through for a one on one by Greg Tansey, but he fluffed his line by firing his shot straight at keeper Nicky Bull. Poole then fired the ball over the bar after being set up by Barry Conlon and Danny Swailes should have put us 1-0 up when he misjudged a cross and fluffed a headed chance. On loan Jamie Proctor entered the fray in the 61st minute and he caused a few problems initially down the left and then the right wing. One surging run saw him go close as he gathered confidence the longer his debut went on. Greg Tansey then produced a good save from the visiting keeper as he saw his 25-yard free-kick palmed over the bar although the last few minutes belonged to Wycombe as they had a couple of half chances to seal their first ever win at Edgeley Park. Wycombe are tipped to be challenging for promotion this season and the Hatters are aiming to finish 3rd bottom so the fact that we were the better of the two sides in today's game must be pleasing for manager Paul Simpson. There is room for improvement but time will also make us a better side as we play catch up with the other teams in terms of finances and preparations for the season.
