Apologies if this is a spack but I can’t see another one anywhere. In reference to the title I thought that Festy Ebosele looked by far the best of the Irish team that played England recently but I’d never heard of him. On looking him up found that he’s at Watford “on loan from Udinese.” A very hopeful 1-0 to the R’s.
Need to get in to LR on Central Line from West Ruislip but looks bad at the moment. Severe delays and when you go on the plan alternative routes bit it advises walking to White City from East Acton. Anyone got any up to date information on what it’s like at the moment?
I know that “egg-chasing” as it’s sometimes referred to on here may not appeal to everyone but I can remember as an Englishman watching that great Welsh team of the early seventies and wanting them to win because the rugby they played was so breathtaking, like the 1970 Brazil of the rugby world. The fly-half Barry John was probably the greatest of all, a player of sublime skill and I could never understand why he decided to walk away from it at the age of 27. Apparently it was because he hated being famous! What a contrast that presents with the present day where fame or “celeb” status is the ultimate goal for so many
Have only started one match thread previously and that was for Cardiff away with a similarly apprehensive title that turned out to be a totally unexpected away win. So that’s one positive omen and another one is that being thousands of miles away I’m missing the game and about the only other home one I’ve missed since October 24th last year when we beat Wigan was the solitary win against Watford. I’ve got a feeling that being possibly without any of our regular central defenders tomorrow we’re going to need all of the positive omens we can get!!! Just become aware I’ve committed a Spackman because in the time it’s taken me to write it someone’s started a Match thread so ignore this one.
Doesn’t seem to be a match thread and haven’t done one before so here goes. Hoping the outcome doesn’t match the thread title but fear that it might do, as they’ve mysteriously managed to strengthen their team considerably, despite being under a transfer embargo. An optimistic 1-0 to Cardiff ( scorer Josh Bowler of course).
One thing that occurred to me is that given that Clive previously and very memorably described Critchley taking over from Beale as being like going to a reading of the will and finding you’d been left the contents of the Ark of the Covenant, could there be any words in the English Language that could possibly do justice to the size of the clusterf-ck which Gaz Ainsworth will inherit if he takes the job?
I would imagine by now that most of even the most optimistic on here have now begun to realise we’re falling like a stone through the Division towards the relegation places. So this is a thread for people to post hopefully constructive suggestions as to what we might be able to do to somehow halt the decline and stabilise so we don’t end up in League One next season.
However long Chris Willock is out for and while I’m certain we’re all fervently hoping it’s as little time as possible, we know for sure he won’t be playing tomorrow and quite possibly till after the World Cup. So we know we have to reorganise for Reading tomorrow. The two real alternatives seem to be to replace Willock with Dykes and play 4-3 -2-1 or maybe put someone else ( Amos maybe ) in Willock’s position and continue with the “false 9.” Was wondering what people’s thoughts are on the best way to go.
Looking at the fixture list on the board here it no longer has the Middlesbrough game as being on next Saturday but has it at the bottom of the list with TBC next to it. Haven’t seen any other announcements about this so wondering what I may have missed?
Now that the World Cup’s done and dusted we can turn our attention to the next major event. For me the most interesting questions about team selection are; 1) Do we open with Jason Roy? For me it’s a no brainer. I know all the arguments against- he doesn’t even open for Surrey, he struggles against the moving ball etc- but I feel that he’s in such good form and the alternatives are so mediocre that it would be silly not to. If he does come off he could give us control of the game in the first couple of hours. Him and Rory Burns for me. 2) Now that Jofra Archer has to have a place in the side, who are the other two quick bowlers going to be. If fit I guess Anderson has to play and I would give the third spot to Woakes but this means no place for Stuart Broad and the 90 mph+ Mark Wood. 3) Which spinner to go with - Ali or Rashid? Ali’s batting form seems to have dipped but it’s still not an easy decision to make. Any thoughts?
