Ashes: Test 2 on 14:10 - Jul 19 by Daley_Lama | 53-3 Huges out, nicked behind. Another review. For me he shouldn't have been given out, hotspot didn't show any contact. Snicko however showed that it was the correct decision so they can't complain too much. |
This series will be doing little to convince the Indians to use DRS. Phil Tufnell has just said the Aussies need a DRS coach.
Ashes: Test 2 on 14:31 - Jul 19 with 1203 views | Daley_Lama | They do indeed. 3 wickets down, 2 reviewed, 1 not reviewed. 2 reviewed shouldn't have been, 1 not reviewed should have been. A perfect 100% failure record on usage and no chance to improve on that in the rest of this innings. Good job the fourth wicket was an easy one, Khawaja skying it for KP to bag a good catch in the sun. 69-4.

Ashes: Test 2 on 15:02 - Jul 19 with 1173 views | lurker | DRS or not, this is a poor poor batting performance by the convicts on a still decent wicket and perfect conditions for batting. Not taking anything away from the bowling like! Will be interesting to see if Cook enforces any follow on if it comes into play as Swann would have a field day with the aussies on a day 4 or 5 pitch at this rate

I'd say no. More likely he'll bat again and grind them into the dust. I fear for the Aussies for the rest of this series now. During the years when we had our noses pushed into the dirt, somehow our English sense of humour kept us going. The Aussies don't seem to have that and if they capitulate here they might as well (from their point of view) go home. From my point of view, lets push their ugly mugs into the baking English soil as hard as we can, whilst we have the chance!

Surely their it's not helping that two of their best players (one being the captain), openly hate each other?

Not very likely as he retired internationally. Its the main reason Lancs signed him for consistancy in the team.

I'd heard that he never officially retired from test cricket, but "was retired" by the Aussie cricketing board

Id think there maybe something in his contract about pissing off to play for the convicts that Lancs will be enforcing. After all the Lancs board have pushed the boat out to try and get promoted back to Division One.

True, and Katich might be a man of his word (no reason to doubt that) and might also welcome the chance to give the Aussie selectors two fingers; but if not, I wouldn't expect Lancs to stand in his way. Who wants a disaffected player in your lineup? I know its all ifs and buts. I guess it was just another poor decision by the Aussies to de-select him.

Ashes: Test 2 on 18:36 - Jul 19 with 862 views | ColDale | that was always the risk of not enforcing the follow on. The nature of this test series always made something like this likely and whilst we're still massive favourites, we're less so than had we stuck them in and they'd been 60-0 at the close, I understand the thinking as had Cook and Root still been there together at the end, that would have been the Ashes secured for me, but I'd have fancied our chances of taking wickets as much as losing wickets. That said, worst case is us not getting more than 150 but 400 must surely be too much for this Aussie batting line up.
Ashes: Test 2 on 18:39 - Jul 19 with 855 views | isitme | Lords tests make a lot of money for the ECB. If the game finished in under three days it would cost them a fortune. I also think that England just want to bat time and let the pitch deteriorate, the scoring rate is academic.

Lets just hope the situation doesnt arise as katich is doing brilliantly which is helping put Lancs in a very strong position in all comps. Any way 16 wickets falling in one day, thought it was a good batting track ha ha
Ashes: Test 2 on 19:52 - Jul 19 with 806 views | Daley_Lama | The new ball has done it all game, no surprise in the late evening the new cherry struck once more. With our 3 'world class' batsmen gone, there will be a few nerves tomorrow morning even though we're streets ahead in terms of the game. I'd have shoved them back in for psychology reasons. Skittled once, an hour and a half to face in a no win situation. Psycholgically that's saying simply, we are far better than you, deteriorating wicket or not.

Psychologically, we batted on and rightly so. We are 264-3 in front at the end of play tonight. 7 wickets left. They could only muster 128 in their first innings and the wicket is going to deteriorate. If we get another 200 on the board tomorrow they are absolutely finished for this test. We can always bowl them out. They would then have to win 3/3 to get the Ashes back. Won't happen. Heh

I was surprised they didn't force the follow on, it made sense to me especially as the bowlers wouldn't be too 'tired'
Ashes: Test 2 on 11:59 - Jul 20 with 728 views | aleanddale | a lead of 300 now. slow going this morning but Brenan and Root doing the right thing.
