that was always the risk of not enforcing the follow on. The nature of this test series always made something like this likely and whilst we're still massive favourites, we're less so than had we stuck them in and they'd been 60-0 at the close, I understand the thinking as had Cook and Root still been there together at the end, that would have been the Ashes secured for me, but I'd have fancied our chances of taking wickets as much as losing wickets.
That said, worst case is us not getting more than 150 but 400 must surely be too much for this Aussie batting line up. |  | | |

Psychologically, we batted on and rightly so. We are 264-3 in front at the end of play tonight. 7 wickets left. They could only muster 128 in their first innings and the wicket is going to deteriorate. If we get another 200 on the board tomorrow they are absolutely finished for this test. We can always bowl them out. They would then have to win 3/3 to get the Ashes back. Won't happen.
