Who do you think will go? 08:36 - Apr 24 with 7715 viewsdalenumber2

Coleman talks of an 'overhaul' with several players going . Who are the weakest links? Who haven't been putting in the effort and who just aren't good enough?

I think it would be easier to ask 'who do you think will stay?'

Kennedy and Tutte I would keep. I think Darby will do better in a better team. Joe Widds I would keep even though his season hasn't been great, but he has had an injury. JLAA should stay. I want Jonah to stay, but by no means have a gauranteed slot. Kennedy and Tutte should be first choice with GJ as cover.

So that's 6 I would keep. Probably not going to happen though.

Keeper is a must, goal scorer is a must, centre half(s) is a must, wingers would be a treat.

Matt Edwards is definitely staying, given that he has been offered a new contract.
Doubt he will be first choice but I think he should be used as our cup keeper get more first team experience, even if it is just 4 or 5 games more with our cup success

After watching coleman on late kick off last night I,d be quite excited about next season if I was a Rochdale fan. It sounds like you could have a whole new team next season with a backbone of your current squad. As long as he doesn't go down the ex accy and all scousers route i reckon you'll have an exciting season. The only bad thing is when he mentioned dunphy he kept referring to Rochdale as they!! And accy as we, he did say accy might not be so pleased to see him next year so he's confident about next season..

What's happened to kel ???

Needs to keep upping his game to maintain any chance of being 1st choice keeper.....poor display at Chesterfield, days after new contract, typical?

I don't know whether 4 games would be enough time to cement the number 1 shirt for him, but he needs to more game time otherwise he needs to be allowed out on a short loan (1 or 3 months maybe) and use Danny taberner as backup for that time.

Just so Edwards can get a decent run somewhere and the management team can have a look at him in proper games

We definitely need a decent new permanent keeper - 1st priority. Edwards was badly at fault for that 1st goal - looked like he didnt want to put his body in where it might hurt - when he shouldve been claiming the ball and the man in one go. Kennedy, Tutte and Jones under contract so should stay till Jan atleast. Akpro and Widds I would love to keep but both out of contract so could easily leave. Try and get Long and Darby back with Symes and Grant and we've got a decent base to build around.

I think you have to look at JLAA for their first goal. Balls into the box cause problems and all season long we've been letting people put them in. If you can stop the ball at source, or even just make it difficult for the player putting it in you stand a better chance of not conceding.

Just watch the replay and you'll see JLAA saunter into view just after the ball is played. Dagnall would have killed himself to get that block in. That could've been the difference all over the pitch all season. Too many unchallenged balls into the box.

I'd love to see us sign Grant, liked him under Hilly, and has the right attitude towards the game, just wants to play football, and hopefully under Coley can deliver, Symes can go jump in the south coast sea as far as I'm concerned.

Life is a game of fate.

Yes, both out of contract (I think) and both done it for Coleman at Accy. I imagine both would be on his wish list.

No thanks RE: Symes.

Really liked grant when he was here, seemed like a good player and was sad to see him leave so early. would not mind one bit if we signed him. Just get a decent target to play up top with him.

I think we'll keep;

Edwards
Lucas
Holness
Byrne
Holden
Widdowson
Tutte
Kennedy
Jonah
Thompson
Akpro
Gray

Although it wouldn't surprise me if we get offers for Kennedy and Thompson and if we do, I can see them leaving. In fact, I can imagine Hillcroft might have their eyes on a cheeky bid for Joey T.

I think we've definitely seen the back of;

Jordan
Twaddle
Adams
Grimes
Amankwaah
Barry-Murphy
Hackney

So it looks to me like we need to sign;

First-Choice keeper (possibly another season-long loan)
Right Back
Centre Back
Right Winger
Striker

at the very least.

I agree with that but find it quite worrying too. While it will be great to see JC rip it up and start again, relying on free transfers of a decent quality to fill all of those positions may be asking a bit much.

Will we stretch to a transfer fee to get someone we really want? Perhaps.

What I don't want to see is a massive influx of panic loans just before the season starts, or a load of journeymen without a club snapped up because we've left it too late to get anyone else.

I guess what I'm saying is, will there be enough quality out-of-contract players to fill the gaps this summer? And, if so, will we have the resources to get them?

Am I the only one that would keep Grimes? I think he is one of those players that needs the right partnership, I think he was playing well in pre-season with Hackney, he seems to me like the sort of player that needs a good crosser to feed him.
What do you think?

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

I think JC would love to keep Grimes and Adams, but I don't think they'll stay. Adams has seemed disillusioned all season and Grimes hasn't really looked interested since he joined the club except for one or two decent performances.

I think both could do a great job for us in L2 but I think they'll be looking for a way out and I can't see JC wanting to keep players who aren't 100% committed.

Some of the problems with Grimes have been 'done to death'

IF his attitude changes, IF he can adopt a more interested approach, IF he can increase his work rate, then it might well be worth persevering with him. His finishing ability is not in doubt.

His problem is that he isn't as good as he THINKS he is.

Jordan and Twaddle are under contract along with Holness so unless they want to leave and the club wants them to leave, they will be staying.

Am not convinced Thomson and Widdowson will stay either. Think Widdowson will be offered a contract but not that he will accept. He is under 24 though so compensation would be due unless he does a McCardle and goes abroad to Scotland.

Adams and Grimes also under contract but neither has played regularly recently so could be allowed to move on. If so real shame in Adams case as he is a L1 player. Grimes could be if his workrate matched his penalty area play.

Am sure Lucas will go. Also think Holden might as may need quicker defenders. He would be a tad unlucky as he has not done too much wrong when played at centre-half.

I was under the impression that he was still doing his YTS due to the injury he had that kept him out for so long.
Think it finishes at the end of the season, or that is what understood. I could be way off the mark.

Has he been released recently?

From the out of contract players:

David Lucas (if Coleman wants to find a new GK coach)
Brian Barry-Murphy
Simon Hackney
Kevin Amankwaah
Dean Holden
Joe Thompson

Think all these will be released and don't really have an problem with any of them going even though I quite like David Lucas but, i'll put my faith in John Coleman.

I also think we'll be trying to move on the following players from their current contracts or actively trying to sell them:

Marcus Holness
Stephen Jordan
Marc Twaddle

Would be delighted if we can offload them, none of them offer much to us at all, two of which have been poor signings this season.

I wouldn't bet against us losing the likes of Jason Kennedy, Nicky Adams and Gary Jones. Jones, from what I'm told, may well not be a Dale player next season, Adams is continually linked with Bury again and I really think Jason Kennedy will be lured down the M1 into Oakwell.

That leaves us with a squad consisting of:

Matty Edwards
Neill Byrne
Joe Widdowson (if he's offered a deal and stays)
Ashley Grimes
Andrew Tutte
Jean Louis Akpa-Akpro (on the basis he too is offered a deal and stays)
Reece Gray
Godwin Abadaki
Jordan Fagbola

To me, that's a frightening amount of players we have to try and recruit and I don't envy John Coleman trying to sell the club to potential new signings. We will probably see the likes of Dean Winnard, Sean McConville, Bobby Grant, Luke Joyce, Terry Gornell and possibly Michael Symes as targets for next season though.

Certainly going to be an interesting summer, if nothing else.

If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor

Is Amankwaah out of contract? For some reason I thought he'd been given 18 months, could be wrong.

If not, I'd release him too. He's looked like a completely different player to the one seen before his injury when Coleman arrived. Not even jumping his height for headers at the moment - a problem discovered in the mid 1990s called paulwilliamsitus.
