This has been on play in my head all week. Loved it then, and love it now.

RIP Neil

Well, their name is based on a drum machine, so...

Oh wow, quelle coincidence! I was just about to post this:

Can's sound, especially the drumming, was so influential, for example, on the Madchester scene...

Eerie but my oh my, what a toe tapper!

Adrienne Davies' drumming - and of course, Dylan's guitar playing - is so precise and expressive in this. They really understand the power of the space between the notes.

Steve Gadd on this one, with some amazing drumming, maybe skip to ~4:45 if its not your cup of tea ;p

You beat me to that one Nick.

You could take any number of Steely Dan cuts as evidence.

Another fave of mine from that Album was Josie, 3:36 in to the track is a fill of simplicity but perfection from Jim Keltner

Very sad week Brian - so many of our age group mourning the loss of Rick Buckler. Ironically we were more worried that Bruce Foxton was in trouble due to really bad health. Neil bumped in to him in Covent Garden (I think it was over Christmas) and was talking to Bruce and Neil said he look really shook. I asked Neil what they discussed and he said 'Arsenal v Tottenham' as apparently Bruce supports Spurs I mean all that music and bass they could have had a chat about in the queue and he asked him what team he supported.

So many of my favourites in here already - Peart, Copeland, etc - so here's another maestro on a kit:

Brann’s drumming is effortless yet as tight as it gets in the metal genre.
There are better drummers of course, but I enjoy watching this guy play .

You might already know of Zombi, I would describe their music as hard-edged progressive electronic *but* although there are a lot of synths in there, there are only two musicians, a proper drummer, and a bassist who also handles most of the keyboards and the electric guitars.

As a result, the drumming and bass playing are very much to the fore and propel the music forward.

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

That Can sound is amazing.

I missed that over the years, thanks, and I can hear the Madchester link, definitely.
