Grimes for Wales on 17:34 - Feb 10 with 1556 views | ReslovenSwan1 | The is plan is downright dumb. At the present time p long term players in Welsh teams are players at Championship to league 2 level. Gareth Bale was not eligible for England but under this rule would be. Welsh born player of Welsh parents and grand parents would be eligible for the three Lions if Cardiff or Swansea sell them at 16. Swansea have low Iwan Morgan and Cardiff three players as teenagers. Bianchi Benjamin and Crew. The very best get taken away early while Welsh teams are struggling and the poaching is paid for by Arab or US money. Wales would get Grimes and. Leon Britain and England would get the best of the best Welsh talent like Ramsey or Bale. [Post edited 10 Feb 17:58]

It probably applies to British passport holders only English Welsh Scottish Northern Irish and the islands. The Spanish FA might have a view on changing eligibility rules for their nationals. [Post edited 10 Feb 18:19]

"But the plans put forward by the FAW would allow ANYONE registered with a club in the home nations for at least five years to become eligible to play international football for that country."

Angel was more than qualified under the rules. Same as Paulo do Canio should have played for England. Edit ** nit sure if the play in a country for five years rule has changed ? But it was in place at the time.

While Welsh teams are low in the league it is no good to Cymru. That should be blindingly obvious. Even a good prospect like Piroe stays only two seasons. Grimes and Ralls are anomalies. Grimes is good and players this good rarely stay long.

Not really…,? Rambo, Joey, Ben, Rodon, Gunter, Roberts, Jazz, Macca, Ledley, Colwell, Cabango, Coleman Earnie, etc all matured at welsh clubs. I think it used to be true when you look at Hartson, Bellers, and Bale. I am not convinced its been that way in south Wales for some time. I am not sure about north Wales - again was the case with Rush, Hughes, Speed, big Nev, Savage and Ratcliffe. More recently Harry Wilson and Nico so maybe its also reduced…?

Grimes for Wales on 06:03 - Feb 11 with 776 views | PawelAbbott | Any player playing for a Welsh club would only really be able to get into the Welsh squad on talent. Very, very few have played for England only a couple whilst we were in the Prem. The very best Welsh players were at Englush clubs and how many of them would have chosen to play for England? I don't imagine Bale would have accepted anyone other than Wales. Also, Wales would offer most of them first team international games a long time before they would have made it in the English squad. We were picking Bale long before England would have had him
Grimes for Wales on 06:22 - Feb 11 with 758 views | RichardO | Grimes in the Welsh team for me would be a huge step backwards. A number of Swansea managers have realised his weaknesses and because of his good points have tried to build their team around him to accommodate him. Can you really see him commanding the central midfield at international level. All for trying to find new players to build the ranks of the Welsh squad, the younger the better before they really prove they can excel at a higher level and use their belief in their Welsh nationality to secure there alleagence but if you are going to use an "Englishman" of an age, who has been overlooked by England surely you would be looking for someone already playing at the higher English Premier League level. Are those players in short supply, maybe they are because of the number of foreign players plying their trade in the EPL. There do seem to be players of quality overlooked by Premier teams do you just have to look at Josh Sheehan deemed not good enough for the star studded Swansea team unable as a youngster to force his way into even a failing Premier league team now giving a good show of himself in a Welsh Shirt. You could add the likes of Cullen and Cooper into a category of players when looked at in isolation you would think would not be up to the international grade but as a team player fitted in to the benefit of the Welsh Squad. Would Grimes benefit Wales adding numbers to the squad in a position we appear to be low in numbers maybe BUT at the moment I am more interested to know or confirm has he been one of the main issues that has held the Swansea team development back, shutting out potentially better players, can we really say having a single player in place in a failing team with good players around him not performing well for a long period of time has been a good thing?

Grimes for Wales on 09:55 - Feb 11 with 648 views | hobo | The media have just plucked Grimes as a headline example, The FAW aren't actively trying to persuade him to join ranks. Overall I don't think the proposals would benefit us. We'd lose out on future Welsh stars at top English academies as it suddenly makes them eligible for England

Yes, anyone who is really honest knows that any English-born player good enough to play for England would. Ashley Williams, for example, if he were good enough to have played for England without doubt, would of played for the country of his birth. Bale seems a passionate Welshman who I couldn't imagine would of changed ranks; the likes of Giggs probably would of chosen the more lucrative England route, especially as he grew up in Manchester. Personally, I could never believe a true Welshman could play for England, but money & the lucrative deals it brings seem to be the driving force for some footballers. It's quite laughable the hate for England by the usual suspects who welcome English players into our international side when they qualify because their gran was born in Prestatyn.

Ramsey was sold at 17. Joey at 21. Bale 16 at Southampton. All would become England eligible. Wales gas enough average players. It is stars they are short of.
