Russell Martin must feel as though he’s won the Euro Lottery 19:21 - Jan 4 with 2156 views | saintmark1976 | No doubt sat at home tonight laughing his socks off :- 1. I get the sack. 2. I get a shed load of money by way of compensation after having my contract needlessly extended in the summer. 3. My C V is intact because I didn’t manage a Premiership club when they were finally relegated. 4. The club appoint a manager to replace me and the results are as bad if not worse than when I was in charge. 5. I’ve got a very attractive girlfriend. What’s not to like ?

Russell Martin must feel as though he’s won the Euro Lottery on 19:32 - Jan 4 with 2085 views | A1079 | The problem is, as it was a problem when they finally decided to dispose of Ralph is that, they do it without planning a proper replacement. After Ralph it was Jones and Selles. This time it is Juric. But how many of us really knew who Juric was? What evidence was there that he would be better than what we had? I don't blame Juric but suddenly the style is changed with players that had been drilled to play a certain way for ages at a time when the team is rock bottom. The people running this club seem to be a mix of inept and incompetent. The players don't seem to be able to play any style - is it simply they are not good enough or is it simply they have now given up. It is a complete and total mess and we know now that we will be the team with the lowest points total ever and possibly the worse goal difference. When it comes to making bad records we appear to be adept at it.

If the new guy had come in altered the method of play and got some results then I would agree with you. He has altered the method of play and the results haven’t changed which indicates to me that the players Sports Republic assembled simply aren’t good enough. Because of this Martin’s C V is intact going forward and he will have no trouble whatsoever in obtaining another appointment as a manager.

I agree. He got out just in time to save enough of his reputation for another crack at a Championship job. If he'd stayed until the end of the season, it would have been too late. The best he could have hoped for then would have been a lower league job. Right now, he's probably the happiest man connected with Southampton Football Club this season, and very relieved that we didn't leave it any later to sack him. [Post edited 4 Jan 20:30]

I bet he looked at that result today and thought, "It wasn't my style of play, the team is just useless. Phew, I can go into my.next job with confidence"

He wasn’t given the tools to do his job. But, to continue with the kamikaze passing at the back was pathetic. If I were him I’d be on the Costa del Sol enjoying some winter sun.

It was the questions we had wrong. |

Don't forget Juric is having to cope with Martin's squad. He's not going to perform miracles. He's got until the end of the season, then it's at least fairer to judge - even though he won't be able to build his own team before then. We've just got to hope we make some improvements, win a few games and keep fighting.

Reasons to think that Juric might be another dud: 1. Played 3 lost 3 2. Playing with no discernible style 3. Odd team selection today 4. Losing 0-5 to a team with an awful away record 5. He was appointed by the geniuses that gave us Nathan Jones and Russell Martin Reasons not too 1. We looked better for 45 mins against West Ham

1. Yes, it's 6 games - Martin had 16 matches; 1 win and 2 draws = 5 points; 13 losses;11 goals for; 36 goals against. 2. What discernible style do you think we should have? 3. Granted some strange selections but which managers don't have strange selections. we don't know everything that goes on behind the scenes. 4. Brentford are an excellent team that have been well managed, as has the club, over the last few years and much better than we are; they previously had 3 away wins when we have none with one home win. Saints have the worst home record and the worst away record. 5. SR are clearly finacial grifters out of their football depth.

Totally agree. He needs time. He has inherited a load of average players, and loanees that need to be shipped out. Juric has nothing to lose and can afford to upset some of the so called senior players who are not performing. The team looks like they are knackered and so unfit. That can't be Jurics' fault ? Brentford are not the best team around, but they showed, unity, determination and ability to just keep going. They just carved us open so easily. Would I want to go back to Russel Martin and 'Rusty ball' - no. All I ask is for the team to show a bit off effort, out the cray mistakes and show some pride. If they can't do that, just drop them and put some of the reserves out.
Russell Martin must feel as though he’s won the Euro Lottery on 13:57 - Jan 5 with 747 views | saintjeff52 | Russell Martin was removed at least 6 Games too late. He blew automatic promotion last season with poor team selections, and poor game management, and substitutions. We knew we were finishing 4th, weeks before end of season, despite his tactics of suicide football. He got lucky playing Leeds in the play off final. Leeds were a totally demoralised team, having blown 2nd place so late in the season, and they never recovered. True, a lucky Win at Wembley was absolutely amazing, and I was as pleased as any other Saint to have gained promotion. I always thought that if he insisted on playing his brand of football in The Premier League, we would be in trouble. Sadly, Martin 'killed' our Season as early as December. Whoever came in to replace him has/had NO CHANCE of keeping us up. Our Owners Sports Republic are totally hopeless. Two Relegations in three seasons speaks for itself.OUR Club is a total mess at the moment, and the only way is down. I just hope we get at least 12pts this season, to avoid the igmony of being THE Worst Premier League ever.

True, whoever came in had little chance of keeping us up, but it was not guaranteed that we got zero points, score 1 and concede 8 either against three middling London teams. Juric has not impressed so far.

Initially I liked Juric. But results dictate. We just needed an experienced PL manager like David Moyes or Potter. But firstly they wouldn't come. Nobody would work for these pathetic owners at a club in chaos. Secondly, the players are so poor, I am not sure if anyone could.make a difference. The top managers run a mile and they always will because they know this club is heading for disaster.

Russell Martin must feel as though he’s won the Euro Lottery on 16:29 - Jan 5 with 501 views | DorsetIan | We should have beaten West Ham and we were in front against Palace. (Even yesterday we were in the game until the two rounds of subs. Particularly, Sugawara coming on seems to have opened up our right side like a tin of beans.) It is far from fanciful to think that we could have won two of the last three games. In which case we'd now have 12 points. Add the two points dropped against Ipswich at home and we'd be on 14 - the same as Leicester and two points from safety. The squad is not strong but we didn't need to be doing quite so disastrously. Martin and now Juric are responsible for quite how poor we have been. It would be interesting to know whether Cooper was ever in the mix. Can't really see why he would have turned us down.

Getting the sack is never going to be good, as except in extreme cases it represents failure. 2. The compensation will soften the blow doubtless, but from a professional point of view he failed spectacularly. 3. CV shows he left a club marooned at the bottom of the league, effectively relegated by Christmas and received universal criticism for not adapting his tactics. 4. Too soon to judge if results will ultimately improve, but Juric does not begin at the same starting point having inherited a squad that is probably traumatised by what has gone before. 5. The break up of his marriage and the family home can not be compensated by the ample bosom of a new interest imo.
