There's an increasing amount of posters talking about 'Duffball'. Interestingly, most of them seem to be die-hard supporters of Russell Martin, trying to spin a narrative that Duff (a) has only one style of football and (b) it's a reversion to the Monk/Cooper style of football (what we might call the Roundhead approach, as opposed to the Cavalier style of Martinez/Laudrup/Potter and (supposedly) Martin).

I actually think it was fair to describe Martin's approach as 'Martinball' as the man himself said that there would only be one way of playing under his watch, and that was the way Man City play under Guardiola.

Trying to pigeonhole Duff on the strength of one friendly is, IMO, just a lame attempt to undermine confidence in him before the season has even begun. Good managers adapt their tactics and strategy according to the strengths of the players in their squad and the opposition they face - between and during games. That's not Duffball, it's Football.

I'm a bit baffled with the team selection, and the chopping and changing, with one more pre season game to go.

I expected to see the team and formation we would we be using against Brum.

It will be interesting to see Saturday's line up.

After last Friday I'm taking the advice of those who said friendlies don't matter. I'm not even watching until a week Saturday.

That’s what I was thinking. And why so many u21s that probably won’t get into the match day squad.
Poor performance tonight, looked disjointed but hopefully that will come with game time together. I hope I'm wrong but I think we will struggle in the first 10 games. Maybe after that we’ll start to pick up some pace.

The part of me that wants to be positiv is saying he's having a thorough look at the squad to see what he's got.

I can live in hope but 10 games into the season he won't have any excuses...hang on...he SHOULDN'T have any excuses.

And me.

I'm starting to think that duff is using the u21s because he knows that we won't be getting any players in before the season starts.

Let's hope that he doesn't get let down by the owners.

Must say, that thought crossed my mind.

Maybe he knows that even with replacements for those who have or will leave, the squad needs strengthening, makes sense to look at our u21s to see if there is quality to step up. May need them early in the transfer window and hopefully will be pleasantly surprised but big the step up takes game time.

Definitely Richard, duff has looked at the young uns in the first few friendlies but now we are 10 days from our first league game, surely we should have these 2 to 3 new prospective new signings to bed them in before this first league game.

Think it will take a bit more than a few friendlies to pick and bed in new players and review U21s.
Hopefully this manager won't dismiss players as easily as others and quickly works out to play to our strengths while spending time to work out other teams attributes and weaknesses, hopefully he can listen to people at the club who have seen what has work and what has not the last couple of years and build with a solid base of néw players.
