Craig Dawson potential transfer 13:38 - Jan 16 with 9164 views | Sheffield_dale | Just wondered if anyone knows whether Dale will receive anything from the potential £6m Dawson transfer from West Ham to Wolves? Did we have a "% of all future transfer clause" inserted?
Craig Dawson potential transfer on 13:41 - Jan 16 with 7676 views | 442Dale | Usually a percentage of profits on transfers. Think this ended when he left Watford for West Ham who paid less than Watford had to West Brom. If he goes to Wolves we may get a “Playing for lots of teams beginning with W payment”.

Would be great to see him back at Dale for the final season of his career, but if he settles in the area with Wolves, most likely to end up at Walsall

Good spot. Just heard Jonathan Ross discussing the very same thing on Talksport and he also played for Wadcliffe and Wochdale! He had a spell at Bolton but that was on loan so his spell at the Twotters doesn’t count.

Craig Dawson potential transfer on 16:49 - Jan 17 with 6445 views | blackdogblue | Wolves did put another bid in as they did on the summer but rejected. Moving to Wolves is something to consider as nearer home for him but no good if the club won’t sell him & he is under contract but only until June… [Post edited 17 Jan 2023 16:54]

Moyes has a dilemma as his other centre backs seem to be plagued by injuries, but obviously they need to maximise £ before contract runs out. Article in the Evening Standard tonight suggests that they are shopping for a replacement .

Strange that the deal wasn't registered in time for today's game, since its been mooted for weeks, but might've done him a favour not facing City first up [Post edited 22 Jan 2023 11:36]

With Haaland getting 3 goals whilst no doubt Craig sat and watch may have been frustrating bearing in mind after Haaland had played against West Ham earlier in season(agame Dawson missed).Dawson posted something on social media suggesting he couldn't wait to play against him

Sorry if that is the case as I don't have any of that rubbish either so just remember reading that there was an alleged comment from Dawson at the time.
Craig Dawson potential transfer on 07:43 - Jan 23 with 4378 views | fourfourtwo | https://www.wolves.co.uk/news/mens-first-team/20230122-hobbs-we-re-bringing-anot I really like this article by the Sporting Director. For me this shows real transparency but also where we are clearly behind the pack in terms of infrastructure. Dawson was a target back in the summer, for a different manager, but the Sporting Director has maintained the relationship with CD throughout and then they’ve managed to get it done in the next window under a different manager who also rates him. You can a clear & consistent approach instead of nonsensical, haphazard signings every window when you’re in periods of instability. When you think of it, we could have brought in an experienced football man, with great contacts in the game & probably agreed a salary instead of signing Cameron John! This would have removed a hell of a lot of the abuse and criticism from the BOD as there is a football head of the club. [Post edited 23 Jan 2023 7:48]

Is being behind a pack of Wolves, in the Premier League, being "clearly behind the pack" in general? How many other teams in L1 & L2 have a DoF? There's going to be a few, but does that place us "clearly behind" our peers?

We’re clearly behind our peers in hundreds of ways as we sit bottom of the football league. Seemingly being less attractive than ever and a first likely relegation out of the football league to contend with. People were commenting the other day about how during the Hill glory years we were way ahead of the game in terms of sport science, fitness etc. With time most caught up and surpassed us. Ultimately we will never improve if we don’t change and evolve and I would hazard a guess that most clubs with solid infrastructure such as DOF’s are more successful than those without. I’d use Port Vale as a case in point where they have the excellent Colin Garlic as Chief Exec and Flicker as DOF. Currently sitting pretty comfortable in mid table League One following promotion.

Couldn't agree more that things need to improve across a range of both footballing and commercial activities Not having a DoF doesn't in itself, put us "behind the pack" which is the basis for your point in commenting on the transfer of Craig Dawson from one Premier League club to another [Post edited 23 Jan 2023 14:06]

No but it gives consistency from a football perspective that has been agreed with the DOF, the board and ultimately the chairman. It shows they are constantly working on the same page. A structured, solid recruitment plan. Something we could only dream of with our current make up. It means that managers come and go, but there is always somebody else ensuring there is method in the madness so to speak. It would also ensure a situation like we’ve just endured with RS would never happen again. Cameron John is quite likely the highest earner in the squad. Let that sink in. Jason Willcox has just left a fairly cushty number at City to take on the DOF role at Southampton so I’ll be keeping an eye on how that turns out.

Cameron John's salary sank in the split second i read about it, along with my heart You're preaching to the converted on each of those individual points, and it's clear the board are inexperienced in footballing matters, which can't be held against them (but is by some)

This is quite an interesting interview with FGR DOF which is more eloquently put than I can muster: Long-term and strategic planning were recurrent themes in our members answers with Rich Hughes, Director of Football, Forest Green Rovers FC adding: “The role has several benefits, but the main one in our opinion is an ability to provide continuity and stability in transition periods for a football club, with the average tenure of a head coach or manager being as short as it is, clubs should not find themselves in a scenario where a manager leaves and the club finds itself without structure or information. “Having a Sporting Director in situ also means that the club is able to work on a medium to long term basis as opposed to continued short term strategies. Having a Sporting Director will also be beneficial to a Head Coach or manager as it will give them a sounding board to develop forward and will avoid the Head Coach becoming stuck in an echo chamber.”
