They picked Beale.

You sure?. I'm not saying they didn't ,but wouldn' it be more realistic to assume Ferdinand put Beales name in the hat first.?.

I’m not 100% sure, no. I am going by Amits own comments:

“the most important decision that the board of any football club makes is the decision to appoint its manager”.

I guess they have the final say in everything but you'd think that decision would be based on the recommendations of their DoF.?. For example if Ferdinand didn't want either Holloway or macClaren but maybe the names were in the frame and they went ahead anyway then that's the boards responsibility.

after he was reccomended to the board by Ferdinand & Hoos. Same with Warbs.

When we appointed Holloway and McClaren they were not the ones that Ferdinand/Hoos had put forward

Sorry for the diversion but this reminds me of a story I heard from a former US Military Intelligence bigwig on a podcast or something.

For generations it was Pentagon policy to a produce and present three military options to the President for every crisis knowing full well that including a really obviously bad option would sway the President towards their own preferred policy.

For example:

A) Sanction Iran
B) Move a fleet into the Persian Gulf
C) Assassinate the Top Brass on a foreign soil.

This was until Trump came along because he chose the ‘worst’ option, which was the reason the Iranian chief of staff was vaporised on Iraqi soil.

It’s clear the wider team yields a short list, as one would hope. But the point I am making is the owners make the final decision.

Isn’t that the case for all well run football clubs everywhere? Appointment under advisement?

They signed off on Beale. If you think Tony and Ruben had the first foggiest idea who Mick Beale was in May I don’t know what to say.

I’m not sure why you feel you need to add something that was never said. To clarify, I never said they knew of Beale before the recruitment process, only that they make the final decision on who gets the job. My point is nothing more than that.

Well you said they picked him, which isn’t true. Les, Hoos, Belk do the picking atm. The board sign off on their pick after a very final meeting, but it’s a formality, they’ve put the faith in the people who run the club day to day.

There have been times very recently when the owners have “picked” the manager. Holloway was foisted on LF and LH, they didn’t want him, it was problematic from the start. Hoos having to rebuke a manager about his conduct at Millwall that night was a career first for him. McClaren was also a board pick, Fernandez had to “get him out of his system”.

I think it’s important to draw this distinction because ppl gave LH and LF pelters for both those hires and neither was anything to do with them and they were as miffed as everybody else.

From the dictionary.

[Pick]: to choose (someone or something) from a number of alternatives.

Yes, I said they picked Beale, because according to Amit, that is what happened. They had a shortlist- presumingly from Ferdinand et al- and the owners interviewed and “picked” - AKA - made the final decision from the short listed candidates.

Plenty to bash the board with mate, I don’t think we need to draw on semantics and dictionary definitions.

I’m no fan of the owners (big fan of their money though) but I think this is a really sensible approach, even when it delivers shitehawks like Beale.

Seems to be a misunderstanding here. I’m in complete favour of the approach Baz and it makes total sense. I was merely pointing out the owners have the final say, and ultimately make the decision on who gets the job. That was it! Anyway, we move on. I’m really keen to see who we get in next, and I have total faith in the new appointment, as I believe we’ve got the process right after years of trying.

Oh come on, you're playing with words here. Its obvious who did the interviews, vetting etc for applicants but of course the owners do the final signoff. As Clive has already been very clear about, they didn't pick Beale, they accepted that others more qualified to make the decision chose him.

To be fair to the shortlisting committee, there were no obvious signs that he was a lying snake when he was first appointed - just ambitious

I'm happy they are getting the process right these days, and not just relying on Fernandes' sweetshop trolleydash

I like the idea of appointing someone like Cifuentes, although I know the square root of sod all about him.

Have spoken to my pal in Stockholm, who is a Hammarby fan, and he doesn't think it will happen.

He said Hammarby paid around 250,000 release for him from Aalborg, so would expect significantly more than that.

He also said that Cifuentes is far too good for Swedish football, but Hammarby are giving him free reign next season to keep him onside for another year.

Being pragmatic, I still think Critchley is the wiser of the options, if we can get him.

That's interesting to hear. I thought that whatever Hammarby want is likely to be less than we got for Beale. I also thought there was a good chance that Beale was on higher wages as well, so hoping that we can afford whoever we have as first choice. Cifuentes sounds interesting and Critchley is a good option too.

If he's flying in for an interview, then QPR will know the release fee. Waste of time otherwise. You don't go through all the motions of official approach, fly over etc, without knowing that, so if your mate is pinning his hopes on that he'll be disappointed. More likely Cifuentes wants to come to England but maybe holds on for a better job.

Bare bones.

Seems more like these days they have veto power than actually do the picking , which may not have been the case in the past.

I have been reading up on some Danish forums regarding the Cifuentes move from Aalborg to Hammarby, and a lot of fan chatter at the time mentions, that his Swedish wife and their two kids were part of the reason to move to Sweden. It does not worry me that he is a family man - but it is worrying because this also seems to be part of Beales reasoning for going to GRangers.

I normally prefer to look at the brighter sides of life, but this quote sounds too familiar:
— Until a few days ago, I did not think that our cooperation would end today. But I was offered a job that I think I could not refuse either sporting, financially or for private reasons, Cifuentes says on the Ã…lborg website.
