Well after 51 years in the Bush, minus a couple of years in Hayes end a few years ago, (hence the crappy username) the house sale has finally gone through, and tonight will be my last night in the home that's been the family home since 1966.
Now the day is finally here, I'm actually alot more emotional about it than I thought I would be. So many happy memories over the years.
Thankfully I've still got the excuse of QPR to come back every other week or so, but it won't be the same.
Moved out of London in 1976, when starting a family. A lot more for your money in Derby and E Mids. Plus I've been to every ground in the Midlands and many in North. Work took me all round the country. And other countries too. 6 years ago, we upped sticks and moved to SW France. Peace and tranquility. Signed up to QPR+, so get to see most of the games. Except when Sky butcher the timings. Do miss the live game, though. Only got to see Forest at KPFS.
"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the Earth all one's lifetime." (Mark Twain)
Find me on twitter @derbyhoop and now on Bluesky

Brought up in Northolt, we left and bought our first house in Northampton in 1989, as even in those days prices were ridiculous in our area and could buy a new house for half the price of where me and the Mrs were brought up in Greenford and Northolt. Commute to London for work was only an hour on the train from Northampton to Euston, did that for 30 years. No regrets, although still a London boy at heart, still go to Rangers as a season ticket holder, after a long relapse and probably enjoy it more now, go to London to meet friends regularly.

A thread that really hits home for me - my mum and dad both grew up in west London to Irish parents (Dad in Cleverley estate a stone’s throw from the ground). I’ve carried it on living in Ealing and Kilburn and Queens Park and Kensal Green but now have two young kids and suddenly decades after moving into a tiny terraced house its worth a small fortune and me and the missus constantly talk about moving away to somewhere with more space and clean air and less trouble and strife for the children to get into as they get older.
But my whole life, family, mates and soul are by and large still round west London and I really struggle to see myself anywhere else. Plus I work round here and can walk to Rangers. And I fkin loved growing up in London and I’d love that for the kids.
Obvs miss family and there are many great things about London, but I wasn't really happy there. The way the country has gone over the last few years has made me more glad than ever that I left. Its a crying shame.

No regrets here whatsoever.

Same here, 26 years in Brisbane. Count my blessings every day. Only thing I miss is HQ.

We left London almost five years ago. The things I miss are:
Family & friends Fulham Proper public transport Direct flight options/prices
I expect if we’d moved to a small town, I’d be missing loads more too, but with us living fairly centrally in Bristol, we have loads more good and varied places to eat and drink within a 30 minute walk of our house, than we had before we moved. I was going to say the Heath, parks etc, but we’ve got a 900 acre country estate within a mile of us, and some great parks, so not even that really.
I guess how much you miss food, drink, cultural stuff is dependent on where you end up. My brother moved out to a little market town in Oxfordshire and after two visits we’d been to all the pubs and restaurants - all of which were bang average. I couldn’t live somewhere like that.
London is one of the world’s great cities, but I don’t miss the aggression/violence/how on edge a lot of people seem to be, and I don’t miss how insanely big and busy it is/traipsing an hour plus across town to visit people. Probably influenced by moving from a not great area in London, to an area we love in Bristol, but I instantly felt so much more relaxed living here.
Love going back to London to visit, but very happy to have made the move, and definitely feel it was the right thing to do for our son.
Good luck with your move - hope you find a good spot to be happy.
EDIT: I miss hearing old school London accents.

Moved to Hampshire 30 years ago, live between Southampton and Portsmouth, beaches and South Downs on your doorstep, what’s not to like?! Love coming back to London for footie/a day out but wouldn’t move back now even if we could afford it!
You've said it prefect... myself after 69 years living in west London we moved to the Havant area love the location still a Rs season ticket holder just a 90 minutes journey up the A3 to the world famous Loftus Road.. been here 7 years wouldn't want to move back
