The British Army, navy and airforce were just to tough for Argentina. Freedom won Rule Britannia 🇬🇧
Conscripts are just that , fodder for the Generals .At least we were professional in our approach and application , and thank the lord we were because we could have so easily have lost .

Thankfully due to prompt action the Argentinian naval stayed in their home ports leaving the fighting to be done by their army and airforce which could not spend enough time over the combat zone.

The Argentine aircraft were flying so low their bombs they dropped didn't have time to arm before hitting the ships, until the BBC told them.
I wonder how many British lives the BBC cost.

That’s only because of the logistical problems of fighting a war thousands of miles from home against an enemy who has had weeks to prepare and dig in. The British military in those days were without doubt the toughest in the world. Rule Britannia 🇬🇧
We wouldn't be able to do it now. The British forces couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag these days, as was seen during the embarrassment of Iraq and Afghanistan

So you keep saying. Just who was embarrassed, the poor souls who lost their lives or came back maimed , the hundreds of thousands civilians or just you ? . Just remember it was socialist government who were in power at the time and responsible for the shortcomings of the armed forces. The kit etc only improved after they lost power .

The first gulf War was a spectacular success as the Iraq army was kicked out of Kuwait.
The second Iraq war was not needed as there were no weapons of mass destruction. Tony Blair lied to parliament. As for Afghanistan another war labour took us into without any justification.

We haven’t had a socialist government since 1950.

It would depend entirely if the U.K. F35s were operational. They would easily pick off the Argentinian A4s ‘over the horizon’. Would be a much bigger air superiority than offered by harriers. Enforce air blockade, use Hunter-Killer fleet to enforce naval blockade. Argentina’s subs are in mothballs and has only a frigate fleet now. Whilst the Navy is small we have assault ships and carriers capable of supporting a landing and sufficient drones and attack helicopters to mess up a land force.

Militarily, it was a complete disaster and embarrassment for the British army. They bragged and bragged to the Americans how well we did it in N Ireland, despite being told that it's a completely different field to Urban Britain. British generals told the Americans that they should follow the British way of counter insurgency. We had to be bailed out by the US and they eventually showed us how to do it. It showed up the institutional and material deficiencies of the Uk army.I'm no lover of the yanks, they are gung ho, but their military thinking is far in advance of ours.
Yes, it was the Blair govt in charge, but to describe them as socialist is stretching it a bit.It was more than just kit.The armed forces have been run down over many decades, and I believe this current Conservative govt is planning to cut another 20k troops. Boots on the ground is something we couldn't accomplish in Afghanistan, so making further cuts is going to make something like this impossible to do again.
Individually, and at smaller unit level, The British army is superbly well trained , capable and commuted, however it needs a better doctrine than just crack on lads we will get there in the end.In Afghanistan they were let down by govt and it's Generals.

Because the Russians did so well in Afghanistan.

The Argentine people are our friends.
This conflict should never have been sanctioned.
Our armed forces should never have been asked to make any sacrifices at all. Desperately sad that good people were killed.
You always end up speaking in the end, as Churchill said in 1954 ‘jaw jaw is better than war war’.

Britain supported and helped Argentina to become a World top 10 Country by the end of the 19th Century. Like all Countries it suffered in the1920's and during WWII supported Nazi Germany.
The Malvina's myth was started in the 1940's by Peron, he gave the Country an enemy, a foreign Country to focus on, the Malvina's myth has been used every time the Countries government was in trouble, which was a lot.
The Junta in control had 'disappeared' between 9,000 and 30,000 of their own people, some dropped out of aircraft over the South Atlantic.
The invasion of the Falklands was days after massive demonstrations against the Junta, had they not been opposed the next on the list was Chile, which they planned to invade to take all the Southern Islands.
You believe it was OK to leave the people of a British Overseas territory in the hands of these killers?
Some blame can be pointed at Thatcher for giving signs that she wouldn't defend the Islands before 1982, but it was the right decision to force them out.
Since 1982, successive Peronist governments have continued making Britain the enemy and they have continued to build this Malvina's myth.
They are not our friends.

The Argies seen a weakness and went for it not thinking we would react the way we did,The Argentine Junta thought they were better than they actually were and when they found out the SAS were on mainland Argentina that's when they sh1t a brick and knew we meant business and would stop at nothing.
If we didn't defend the Falklands then Spain would try thier luck in Gib,The IRA would have upt their game in NI....etc

Don't be silly. The SAS are good as they are a a tiny unit, a few hundred at most.

Argentina didn't exist when we took the Falklands how on earth do they have any claim
There's a you tube channel called 'simplified history' which gives a more balanced view on the history of the Falklands including the war itself. I recommend if you have a spare 15min.
