I am showing my naivety. If it is a risk to play him for 45 minutes in the first half why is it not a risk to play him for 45 in the second? I would have thought it would be better to start with our best RB and substitute when safe to do so .

BBM clearly hoped to get through the game without having to use him so that he may start the next game. McNulty’s card has changed the complexion of everything and he’s had to come on. The dug out will be sweating bullets that he gets through this. There’s no way if an international full back is fully fit he starts a game on the bench at Dale. I’d love to know the reasons if the decision was anything but.

Certainly highlights how wafer thin the squad is

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Wigan on 16:37 - Jan 16 with 1814 views | DaleFan7 | 2-3. This goal highlights how small and lightweight we are at the back. Done again beaten to the ball for the 5,000th time in the game. Then 3/4 players around their striker and no one even challenges for the ball.

3-2 Wigan. Ball in the 6 yard box & their player finds it too easy to hook the ball home. Roberts & Rathbone both close enough to have put in a challenge
Match Thread: Rochdale vs Wigan on 16:40 - Jan 16 with 1692 views | 442Dale | Roberts should have used this spell in L1 to concentrate on the defensive side of the game as his other attributes are obvious. Unfortunately that hasn’t happened.

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Wigan on 16:40 - Jan 16 with 1690 views | DaleFan7 | Again, Done not tracking his man despite it being obvious the ball was coming across. Should have been 4.

Very poor from Roberts that - bloody defend don't stand there watching him juggle the ball.

Do you think our players get overly concerned about giving away penalties in situations like that?

Rathbone the same. They were both the same distance from him & they both let him have an unchallenged shot

There's a couple of players who should be very concerned about their futures as full-time professional footballers, never mind giving penalties away.
