Holiday suggestions 08:44 - Jan 25 with 11730 viewskingsburyR

Morning All,

I'm looking to book a holiday with my wife and two girls (6 & 8) i August.

The default setting is two weeks in Ibiza, Lanzarote, Malta (beach, pool etc etc etc etc..........)

I'm looking for something different. I need to keep the kids entertained and at some stage have them swimming. (Their request)

We have thought about the following:

Thailand - too rainy
Barbados - too expensive
America - Little one not tall enough
Cape Town (mates there) - too cold

I fancy Austria/Switzerland/Northern Italy but its all about the kids for the next ten years.

Any suggestions would be greatly welcomed!

Dont know why we bother. .... but we do!

Mexico is a great place for that. Moon Palace in Cancun is superb and great value

Rovinj in Croatia - Maistra hotels - pools, bikes etc for the kids, plenty for you and off the traditional british pub and kiss me quick hats. Fly into Zagreb, hire a car, the roads are brilliant and empty. Also has one of the best restaurants in the world. The Monte. Owner famously told Abromovich to foxtrot oscar.

Poll: Remy - can he play in the playoffs - who's opening post is the best?

My favourite place ever. Lovely people, and the town of Agios Nikolaos, about a mile away, is a good place for family nights out.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

Taken my family,5 adults & 4 children(5-8years old), several times to Sardinia with a company called JUST SARDINIA....well decent for the children and adults. Stayed at Resort & Spa Le Dune - Hotel & Spa Le Sabine. Only draw back is the price, it aint cheap!!! If you fancy it and want more detail please let me know.

You can't go wrong with the Greek Islands, hot and sunny and everything is cheap.

Assuming you're going July/August, given the kids ages and the heat in Greece, maybe Majorca is a better option. Beaches are great and if you don't mind not being surrounded by British I'd suggest hire a car and stay on the East side of the Island, where it used to be predominantly Germans but a more level playing field these days (basically, given our previous reputation, all the best hotels got advertised to Germans rather than us Brits).

Why not try Western France. Places like st Jean de monts, in the Vendee or Royan area. Easy to get to but it depends if you're looking for hotels or camping /caravan holidays. When our kids were that age camping was all we could afford.

Warning most of France goes on holiday in August, so all resorts likely to be busy.

Hear me out on this one... LAS VEGAS

we went last August, direct flights with virgin and 5 nights planet Hollywood hotel for two adults. Cheaper than Spain.

Temp was 100c, seems to be lots to do for kids, massive swimming pools etc, don’t discount it

Only bad thing was the flight was like a Benidorm stag do with pi55ed up brits (even with virgin) so got a free upgrade coming back

Alvor in Portugal.
Relatively quiet, very child friendly and not overly expensive.
Been there with the kids a few times and would certainly recommend it.

The Alps are full of great swimming lakes, big outdoor pools and waterparks, and lots else to do - summer luge runs, bike trails, tree top adventure courses, marmots. And generally good value - resorts work really hard to attract summer visitors. The weather's generally great - choose the northern or southern Alps according to preferred temperature...

Sardinia is wonderful, Corsica too. A couple of years ago, we went on a trip to Sardinia where we stayed at a couple of beach resorts.

Pula, near Cagliari on the south coast, was great. Nice beaches, Roman ruins to explore right on the beach, reasonably priced (well, where we stayed was).

Santa Maria Navarrese is on the east coast and was also great. There were more shops and restaurants than Pula but also good beaches.

With both those resorts, you are not far from the mountains if you want a break from the beach.

Thailand too rainy? Not too sure about that. Usually, it's a nice time of year. Less tourists, beautiful freshening tropical showers occasionally, but plenty of sun unless you are very unlucky. Thais love all children deeply, they'll be welcomed with open arms, natural born baby sitters everywhere you go.

Cannot even begin to compare Thailand with somewhere like Lanzarote or Malta.

Me and Mrs Camberley went to Turkey for the first time last year (never fancied it before) and stayed here:

https://www.tui-blue.com/en/hotels/tui-blue-sarigerme-park.html

The main TUI website class it as 4+ but IMO it's not far off five star but not a five star price. Absolutely beautiful, immaculate grounds, lovely rooms, wi-fi everywhere on the complex and right on a lovely golden sandy beach. I would certainly holiday there again.

In August though I'm not sure if it may be too hot for little 'uns as I went in early June last year and it was still mid 30s and one day actually topped 40. It's also a little bit German/Russian/Ukrainian centric as well as when we went, there weren't many Brits there, although it may have been the time of year. Some might think though that's not a bad thing.

The wife and I went to Beirut recently.

Great food, great things to see, and lots of water to swim in.

And relatively cheap, too. And not dangerous in the least.

Take them back to Lanzarote
As you say, for the next few years it's all about the kids.
Plenty of All Inclusive options so no having to pay for snacks and drinks.
Plenty of really good kids clubs
And that nice cooling breeze so they don't get overheated.
Must have done around 10 years in a row when my girls were younger and anywhere around Jablillo Beach in Costa Teguise was a favourite.

Israel - sunshine, beaches, adventure, great food and of course a wealth of sites to visit. Appreciate its not everybodies cup of tea but you'll get a little bit more than your average 2 weeks by the sea!

Kingsbury (that’s where I’m from by the way, back last weekend when I could’ve been at Pompey, Sunday lunch in The George!), try Brittany, take the car, perfect if you’ve got kids. Recommend this one;

Or a bit further right on the beach and easy accessto Venice;

Also went to Menorca a few years ago, stayed in Son Bou, lovely long sandy beach without the usual lines of umbrellas!
Mahon is good for a day out as well.
