U23s vs Blackburn 12:25 - Dec 10 with 3905 viewsjasper_T

Shocking. Already 2-0 down to the worst team in the league.

Joel Asoro an absurd waste of money. Getting non-stop prompting from Toshack and is still nowhere near the game.

Should be 3-0 good lord this is poor.

Rodon, Dan James, Byers, Ollie and, to a lesser extent, Connor Roberts, were the backbone of the team last season and the season before.

Losing those players and replacing most of them with kids stepping up from the U18s isn't going to reap rewards immediately. It will take time and I think the management team deserve that time.

It would be really nice, and quite a refreshing change, if the fans actually appreciated that this is quite hard for these kids but it's (hopefully) going to make them a lot, lot stronger in the long run.

Let's get behind them......

The only player stepping up from last season's u18s starting against Blackburn was Brandon Cooper. Benda and Garrick a little light on games at this level but otherwise it was an experienced development side boasting a fair amount of senior football.

We've played a few games with Oliver Cooper, Tom Price, Kieran Evans (who's lost basically two years to injuries) and even some with genuine u18s like Jacob Jones and Dan Williams, but this was not one of those situations.

That said we always seem to start seasons very poorly and kick on in the second half but it's been assumed that's due to stepping up a level every season.

Ok, so the key players that I mentioned have been replaced by "squad" players? The fact remains that the top players have moved up and "lesser" players have replaced them.

It's quite natural for them to be struggling but we need to hope that these boys learn quickly from the games they're now getting.

Poll: Simple...would you want Leon in the squad right now, if he was available?

Interesting points being brought up having watched a few games this season and watched the Blackburn game the other day players like rodon, James, mcburnie,Gorre are big misses as that’s where the majority of the goals came from last season.
Parachuting players like Byers assoro and Dhanda in doesn’t always help the cohesion of a team.
Assoro and Dhanda play for themselves Byers is a 10 not a holding midfielder.

Back end of last season we were rotating 3 fresh u18s centre halves to partner with Cian, and had Matt Blake at left back once Palik(?) left the club. De Boer, Dulca, Cullen etc. all saw about as much game time as they're getting now. Garrick was playing ahead of Gorre until his hamstring tear.

DJ -> Asoro (£2m)
Evans -> Dhanda

Best centre half prospect in my opinion is Cabango who is out on loan at TNS, Cooper has been very disappointing this season seems to be lacking any composure, Joe Lewis looks reasonable a no nonsense centre half.

Fake news.

Last season ...
Rodon was at Cheltenham
James was at Shrewsbury, until it did not work out
Ollie was at Barnsley
Roberts was at Boro until xmas

So amazing that they were also the backbone of our u23 team whilst not actually playing for us.
Fair play.

Beware of the Risen People

Joe was in the U23s from August until Jan, when he went on loan.
Dan came back early from Shrewsbury after the shocking way they treated his injury. Once he eventually recovered from the injury, he was one of the first picks.
Ollie played all the games up until February, when he went on loan. He was really missed last season.
Roberts played all the games after Xmas!

I think they all played the whole season together the year before, although I could be wrong.

If anyone doesn't think these players were key for the U23s then they're mad.
