Michael Johnson was a really sad one really - injuries and mental health problems from failing to cope with the hype placed on him took their toll quite severely on him, especially when he struggled with the drink as well. Have always had a lot of time for how seriously City took their responsibility to him - they looked after him, kept his treatment quiet and didn't announce releasing him (it was when he was photographed looking out of shape it came out) to try and give him time to adjust. Thankfully I believe he's healthy again and managed to get on with his life |  | | |

OK, it looks to me as if people are just listing off random players. I mean, every footballers career ends up fizzling out -- its the nature of the beast. 90% of players will eventually end their career at some level of obscurity. Only a really small percentage get to go out on top. Most, have a career that has an upwardly mobile period and then a downwardly mobile period.
I don't think you can be added to the list if you have made the England squad or were involved in a multimillion pound transfer deal. If you have hit those heights then your football career should probably be considered a success and you've done alright. |  |
