Found this comment interesting on another forum: A common occurrence during the Cold War with Russian bombers testing our air defences, although the first strike would have undoubtedly been by missiles with just a four minute warning, with a scramble to get our bombers airborne. Likewise we would pay them visits closing in on their airspace via the North Cape Norway and across the Baltic, just off the coast of East Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia before heading off towards Finland and then home often waved goodbye by a couple of Warsaw pact MIG's. The same would apply to their Southern airspace in the Black Sea. A game of cat and mouse played out for many years then the bear went for a nap. Putin has now shown the world that Russia is no sleeping giant, the bear is awake and a tad restless. | |
