Saints Defender Yet To Agree January Move Although Club's Agree Terms
Wednesday, 22nd Jan 2025 14:00

Southampton are reported to have agreed terms with Hull City for Charlie Taylor to move on loan to the Championship club, although the player himself has yet to agree himself to the move.

The Hull Daily Mail is reporting that Southampton and Hull City have agreed terms for a loan deal that will see Charlie Taylor heading up to Humberside for the rest of the season.

However the player himself is stalling on the deal and it is unsure whether this is due to the fact that he is looking to stay at St Mary's and fight for his place or if he is looking for a better offer to come along.

Certainly Saints are well served in the left back department and also in the centre of defence where he can also play and given the minimal game time that Taylor has had under Ivan Juric, just 45 minutes to be exact in the second half of the game against Brentford, it does not look like he anymore in Juric's plans than he was in Russell Martin's.

However one ex Saints manager who does want him is Ruben Selles who is now at Hull and is expecting a decision in the next 24 hours.

I Fiond it strange he hasnt had a chance especially the shortage of natural left backs at the club.

I genuinely feel sorry for Charlie Taylor, an experienced LB who knows the Premier League and came on a free transfer (!) what more could you want? Meanwhile Russell Martin only ever wanted Ryan Manning and persevered with him - like they were joined at the hip - when Manning isn't the player he thought, and has never cut it at the higher level.

Charlie would be there in the event that Manning got an ACL, broke a leg or perhaps caught the flu', or a suspension. Now we see that KWP is the best choice in either FB spot, which leaves Manning on the bench and Charlie watching from the stands every match.

Charlie has reached 30 (not a bad age for an experienced defender) but deserves to play football whilst he has a career left to talk about. In reality he may now try to help Hull avoid relegation to L1, instead of merely watching Saints drop a division instead.
Talk about Catch 22.

Another abject recruitment failure from the summer because of a lack of expertise in the club. Fernandes is the only new face who has proven their worth. Maybe Wood has shown something and Archer some promise. The jury is out for all of the other permanent signings, which is shocking. Good luck to Charlie Taylor, I hope he gets more of a chance elsewhere

Colburn, you think Ramsdale is not an improvement on McCalamity?
