Newcastle Hovering In January In Move For Southampton Attacker Thursday, 5th Oct 2023 10:12 Newcastle United were linked with several Saints players in the summer transfer window, although in the end only Tino Livramento made the move to St James Park from St Mary's, however the Geordies are still casting eyes South. According to media reports the man that Newcastle are interested in is Carlos Alcaraz, Football League World are one who are making the claim. They say that the North East Club are monitoring Alcaraz and considering making a move for him in January and that they did make tentative enquiries back in the summer. It is also claimed that they are one of a number of clubs who are also watching the young Argentinian. He cost Southampton £12 million back in January and his value has significantly incresed since then, it could be that he is now worth somewhere around double that what Saints paid. However they also go on to say that after Southampton raked in a lot of cash back in the summer window, that they are in no pressure to sell and indeed that they are in no mood to sell any of their players during this campaign. I would say that although the club can never say never, that this January they are prepared to stand firm, they have made it quite clear that in January they will be looking at promotion chances first and money second. If a major bid is made for Alcaraz or indeed any player, they will have to weigh up the pros & cons and the pros of keeping certain players far outweigh the cons. If they can get a big fee for the likes of Charly Alcatraz in January , they will still be able to get it in the summer, but if they hang on to him their could be a win win situation, he could help fire the club back to the Premier League and if he does, we will have the Premier League riches again and if he does want to try his luck at Newcastle then he will have done his job for us. Saints are playing catch up when it comes to automatic promotion, the four straight defeats have left us with a way to go before we are near the top two, but we have a bigger squad than most and we have real quality in it when compared to the majority of the rest of the club, Leicester aside. The size and quality of the squad will be a big factor in how our promotion push will end up come the end of the season in May.
