I can see what you mean. I just did some googling and he’s reportedly on £5m per year 😮 and the 6th highest paid manager in the Premier League. Guardiola is numero uno and reportedly on £20m while Slot is 5th highest on around £6.5m. |

I’m vehemently against the 20mph speed limit and would scrap much of it. The rationale behind the £9bn over 30 years is by no means scientific or proven and was calculated by the Treasury by adding a cost to each journey made. An extra minute on a journey to visit a relative doesn’t really impact on the economy, whereas HGV’s, workers stuck in traffic jams around the Brynglas tunnels and the M4 between Margam and Llanelli does. Time for the 20mph limit to go in most places and to sort out Newport. If Morgan and Drakers don’t like it, then let’s get shot of them. I’d also look to increase the speed limit on the new road around port talbot to encourage traffic off the M4 at busy times. [Post edited 9 Jan 23:14]

He’s a good manager with a very tidy record. In his first job, he gave Watford their best finish in several seasons and he did a good job at Burnley who he got punching well above their station. Everton are in the doldrums and, let’s be honest while they’re a big club they certainly aren’t top 8 material. Could Cardiff move for him? They could do a lot worse. [Post edited 9 Jan 19:38]

There’s a decent article on the subject in today’s Telegraph. (Turn Java Script off to access the article. The US’s previous policy of focusing on domestic issues and “withdrawing” from international issues has allowed the Chinese to step in, court influence or secure access to minerals etc etc in many second and third world countries. They own the rights to 85% of the supply of rare metals and have built ports etc in numerous countries. The US and gone to that the EU have been asleep at the wheel. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/01/09/what-grates-trump-about-greenland/ |

This type of contract is actually put out to tender, that figure would in all likely hood have been be the cheapest price. The contract could potentially have included the requirement for a chaperone, but it’s still a huge amount of cash. This type of thing goes on lot when kids are in temporary care or have “special needs”. - and the number is increasing. If you think these are bad, you need to check out home much children’s homes charge. Have a butchers at the below. The level of care required will vary depending on the circumstances of the case, the risk etc etc. a lot of the children in care have very complex backgrounds, poor parentage, offending, exploitation, child sexual exploitation etc etc and in many cases they would fit the profile of the victims in the gang grooming cases. https://www.lgcplus.com/services/children/revealed-spiralling-cost-of-childrens- |

Maybe it’s because we’re breaking international law and they want to ensure we comply with what’s expected of us. I’m not sure how far down the road this agreement was when Labour came to power, but the Conservatives under PM Truss’s stewardship started the talks. Foreign Secretary Cleverly gave a written statement confirming this and stating a desire to complete the deal in early 2023. Cleverly then condemned Starmer for handing over the Chagos Islands despite the fact he got the ball rolling. It’s mental, more front than Aberavon beach. |

Why do they need to improve them? They are in their own country and speaking their native tongue, nothing wrong with that. I did French and Welsh in School, used my basic French for 35 seconds once in over 50 years and I’m a pretty well traveled person. Use my Welsh nearly every day. |

And then we have Next. There’s an article on the BBC about Next raising prices to offset “an unusually high" £73m increase in staff wages and taxes and then proceeding to explain the increases are as a result of changes announced in last years budget. Anyone with the curiosity or patience to finish reading the article will learn that "Next expects profits to rise by 3.6% to more than £1bn next year." Are we being taken for a ride by some? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cgkxlnlne0po |

Politicians …. You just got to love them. Jenrick, who’s not been short of offering his opinion being asked some searching questions. I’d have thought if you’d done nowt on an important issue and the brown stuff was hitting the fan, you’d keep your head down and say nothing. He was a minister of state and runner up in the Conservative leadership campaign. In my opinion, we need a much higher calibre of politician that we’ve got.

It’s my understanding none of the recommendations were implemented. There were plenty of warm words when the report was published in 2022, but nowt in terms of tangible action. ( There’s more in it in my war and peace post yesterday. ) |

The police do investigate and can Charge/ Summons people to Court for certain low level offences without reference to the CPS but not for serious cases such as this. Before proceedings can be initiated in most types of cases particularly sexual offences the consent of the CPS has to be secured, generally that means submitting a file after the investigation has been completed and the Full Code Test is applied. There is a second process called the Threshold Test but that is only applied when suspects are in Custody and the police believe there are sufficient grounds to Charge and remand, but those cases are rarer and still need to go through a separate department of the CPS which is called CPS Direct and they have a team of lawyers working outside officer hours to review cases. There are 2 stages to the Full Code Test, the first is the evidential test and the second is the public interest test. If a file doesn’t meet the evidential test, then it will quite rightly be discontinued, if the file meets the first part it will proceed to the second part of the test. If the case satisfies both requirements, then Charges will be laid, if it doesn’t the CPS can return it for more work or they will discontinue it. Prosecution rates for sexual offences including rape are very low and the problem has been subject to much scrutiny. There are quite a few reasons for this, but 1 is the fact these offences can occur in private where there are no independent witnesses and it’s 1 word against the other and a lack of corroboration, when it comes to historic cases throw in a potential lack of corroborating evidence and it becomes even harder. These days, I believe every allegation of rape is investigated and all cases are reviewed by senior police officers and the CPS. The police and CPS have a really hard job and there are times they’ve got it wrong and times they’ve got it right. There are victims who’ve been let down and there are innocent members of the public who’ve been subjected to malicious allegations and the trauma that comes with that. The victims in Oldham and Rochdale have been let down on all fronts, some by their families, by the social services, by the care homes who were supposed to protect them, by the councils delivering the services, the criminal justice system (police, CPS, Courts) and by the politicians at Westminster. |

From the BBC report…. “ We have been unable to find any direct criticism of Starmer personally in any of the reports on the scandal, nor can we identify any suggestions that he himself made any decisions not to prosecute.” Starmer made changes at the CPS which made it easier to prosecute the offenders. Fortunately, Nazir Afzal overturned the CPS lawyers in the North of England and prosecutions went ahead. Victims were let down, it’s a damning indictment of our country, jus5 like thecPostvOffice scandal, the infected blood scandal and others. Is there anything we cant get wrong? The content is a bit of a concern, but the author is a journalist for the Daily Express which is probably the most biased of UK’s mainstream newspapers and will be soaked in doom and gloom. I generally read 2/3 newspapers a day, The Telegraph, The Independent are 2 and the third one will vary, they have different political biases but they provide some quality journalism albeit from different political perspectives. The author is a financial journalist from the Daily Express. As far as I can tell this particular Harvey Jones is not a Sir and he is not a businessman, I think you’re mixing the journalist Harvey Jones with Sir John Harvey-Jones the renowned Goliath of British business who was Chair of ICI in the 1980’s and who went on to front a TV programme on the BBC amongst many other things. Sir John Harvey-Jones died around 15 years ago. |

Depending what site you look at it’s been £15k and £20k per week. The way I see it is he should have been offered a deal a long time ago, not offering a deal can make someone feel undervalued and eventually it’ll become personal. I’m not saying that’s happened here, but if he thinks I’m not good enough to get my contract and then someone from the club does eventually knock his door then he just might say @@@@@@ off! Darling holds all the cards and the club have very limited room to manoeuvre, he’s taking a risk that he won’t pick up an injury, but the other side of the coin is a huge signing on bonus in the summer. If they want to keep him, the club will need to stump up a massive signing on fee, a big increase in salary and a contract with a buy out clause where he can pick up another nice little earner from being sold in the future. |

I’m not saying everything is rosy in the garden, because it clearly isn’t, but the original article is from a Daily Express journalist, so it’s hardly likely to be a glowing endorsement. I’m happy to give Labour some time to try and improve from where we were, if they don't Starmer will be gone and they’ll be out. |

Apparently the FB footage is from 5 years ago, so we’re talking around 19/20 when we had a Conservative government and I’m surprised we didn’t see them make more of this and investigate. I know nothing about this police officer, but if what she’s saying is correct it’s politically explosive. Has she or anyone produced a copy of the documentation because In the 5 years you’d think someone somewhere would have a copy and produce it. I’d love to see it for my own eyes. As has been said it is too late. What I will say after driving the full length of the road a month or so ago was that it’s a huge piece of engineering, tbh I was shocked at the number of new bridges, slip roads, roundabouts etc, it’s a huge job.the fact they were upgrading the road instead of building a completely new one didn’t help the time lines as did some of nature of some of the engineering works near Abergavenny. I’m not sure if the 23 years is an over run of epic proportions or an overrun in conjunction with a phased approach, but whatever it is we should have had it before now challenges or not. |
