Why on earth would you bring back Forster. That's one decision he got right after keeping faith with him for too long. Sides only need to get a shot on target and it ended in a goal. McCarthy has done ok and at least he comes for crosses to release pressure. Side should be:
McCarthy, Cedric, Stephens, Hoedt, Bertrand, Hojberg, Romeu, Lemina, Tadic, Cariilo, Gabbi
Gabby and Carillo up top & Tadic in the hole.
However, don't expect MP will play a team that makes any sense as per usual! |

Stephens is a class act and potentially excellent and bearing in mind he was dropped out of sight for no good reason to allow the return of Billy Big Time he has bounced back with a great attitude. He didn't sulk and he could have quite easily made a fuss to leave. No, he kept his head down and has played well on his return and credit to him filled in at right back admirably. Give me 10 Jack Stephens over VVD anytime. The mistakes leading to goals were in the most part down to Yoshida who quite often is liable to a lapse in concentration that has cost us goals. It is hard for our defence because they see chances missed that the opposition rarely miss at this level. Goals win matches and we don't score enough goals and that needs to be addressed. We also need to remember that quite a number of goals were down to Foster and McCarthy has made a positive difference and MP took too long in making that change. The best managers do not let sentiment play a part in their selection and drop players who are constantly making mistakes.
We need a quick direct winger, a target man and it would be the icing on the cake to have a playmaking midfielder who can pick a forward pass to unlock defences. |

Yoshi at fault ..... Stephens didn't have to to react as he lost Yoshida! Same as the 4th Leicester goal and not good enough. Time to shake things up and make Oriol captain and start his best 11 in every game. The rotation isn't working and it is plain to see. Continuity is needed and at the moment players are being picked, left out and then played in different positions. Simplicity is genius as they say and we need to get it right quickly. I am in total agreement with Highfield49! For god sake .......so many fans would love to be in our position as a club right now. Surely supporting your team is getting behind whoever plays and players don't go out to play deliberately poorly. Suddenly Ward Prowse gets some stick and he was excellent against Everton who with the same team, have just had two convincing wins. Why does Reed get some much stick when he has to work within a budget for players. How can he be criticised when he has just brought Hoedt and Lemina to the club who are potentially outstanding signings. To be fair he has got more signings right that wrong and selling players is life for clubs our size.

Very good article and very true. Some of the comments on twitter are embarrassing about our players and we should be counting our blessings that we are in many ways punching above our weight. We have a club to be proud of and at times I wonder why some fans watch if they are not going to get behind whoever plays. It is interesting that so many of the responses to this article are negative. I have watched a lot of PL games and so many sides set up not to lose and it is not easy to create opportunities to score or play exciting attractive football. Sides like WBA try to kill games and Foster was wasting time in the first half at St Mary's ......this was even true of Man Utd with all the millions they have to spend!
If we all get behind the team it's amazing how that can inspire a team. |

I just don't understand why he dropped Hoedt? He has looked excellent and even more odd when our problems have been scoring. So why change the defence when in the most part that has been our strengths. VVD looked heavy legged and ponderous especially when he gave the penalty away. It is not possible these days to let a player regain fitness in the PL. That needs to be done by playing U23 games. After 8 months out he needed at least 6/8 games to get up to speed. Really annoying when it so obvious and at times yesterday the back 4 looked all over the place! |

Why do we waste so much time talking about VVD! Better to support the players that played so well on Saturday and quite frankly nobody in the defence deserves to be dropped! I would make him travel to games and sit in the stands and watch until he starts showing the club and fans some respect! It's his career that he is damaging by not playing and it is amazing how his stock has increased since he hasn't played! No room for sentiment! If that is the case why is everyone criticising VVD, coz if the manager can drop you when you have given everything for the team and played well, it's everyone man for himself! Forget loyalty, team spirit etc etc when a player who wants to leave takes your place. If that's how things work every player should just look after themselves exactly as VVD was trying to do this summer. I know I would if I were Stephen .......in my view he has hardly put a foot wrong when he has played this season and I am sure there wouldn't be a shortage of admirers and who could blame him if he asked to leave! |
