So, for me its on a level with L2/conference its maybe on a par with the league of Ireland but I've never watched that particular league. The strides that the FAW will have to go to to make it a respected league will take decades, in my opinion.

I personally, think their are plenty of examples of ways to grow it commercially and from a spectacle to hopefully make it a viable league. Maybe looking at leagues like the MLS for inspiration. We are a small nation but that shouldn't stop us being competitive.

Hey Mate,

So baby steps, I think the first is the league Cup, then the expansion to 16 teams for the JD Premier. I think it might happen in my lifetime but as i've said previously the 4 teams have played in the EFL for decades and cynically its going to be about revenues and finances for it to be attractive enough to join full time.

So from what I understand, the FAW has conducted a review of the Cymru league, its expanding the format to 16 teams and part of that restructure has been to look at ways of making the league more attractive and increase revenue blah blah blah.

They have been consulting with the four to see if they would be in favour for a while now and trying to work through the varying complications and making sure it is viable with the FA UEFA so as to not have a detrimental effect on the four.

The FAW are already pumping millions back into the Welsh game courtesy of our relative success over the last decade that has increased its popularity as a sport and the revenue from qualifications to major tournaments.

Naturally the next step is to make the league a more attractive proposition, increase footfall and grow the domestic game.

I don't personally know if Disney have an angle but trust that the FAW are looking at the best interests of the game in Wales

AHH Terry,

Different eras, i think i might be a little younger! I just remember in the 90's CCFC etc not really caring!

As much as i'm very much a QPR fan i'm also very invested in the development of football in Wales and hoping to see us thrive as a football nation.

Thank you for the debate so far!

The Welsh clubs by and large are supporting this decision, it would bring increased interest, gate receipts and challenges to the existing clubs. The agreement with the 4 is that the monies won't go to them but to be distributed among the league clubs.

I didn't know about the situation with the play off final and if that is the case i don't support that decision.

The four, are forgoing qualification in the league cup and FA Cup so if they were to win they wouldn't qualify.

Finally, without repeating the same stuff those four clubs have been in the EFL for longer than i have been alive as the Welsh league never really existed - similar happened with the MLS and Canadian clubs. Plenty of examples around Europe of teams playing in different leagues to the country they are from.

OK. I understand your viewpoint.

Yes, it probably will be easier for one of the four to win the Welsh cup than it would be for us to qualify for Europe. Qualifying and competing are two different things though, they would have to give the competition due respect and as we have seen and discussed on other chats the likes of Brentford still prioritize the league over actually winning silverware.

For clubs like Bangor like in the FA Cup its a chance to test themselves against a better standard of teams and in a one off situation such as the magic of the cup you might get a different outcome. TNS have themselves as a Welsh league club been able to qualify and compete in Europe.

As i said in my youth the big four used to play in the Welsh cup but didn't really take it seriously and at that stage their was an opportunity to play in Europe as well.

Going back to my original post, these clubs rightly or wrongly have been competing in the EFL since before I was born and have been accepted into the pyramid. If it gets ratified by the FA then it will be reviewed in four years time by the FAW and the relevant bodies.

Dave, they have done this in Union and the quality of that league is embarrassing and sadly just from a cost perspective getting fans to travel from say Cardiff to Glasgow isn't getting bums on seats or improving the competition as a whole.

All the FAW are looking to do is to improve the standards of its league and grow the game more in Wales.

Hi Mate,

I understand your point and as a QPR fan i share that view, that I want my club to be successful on the pitch - their route might be percievably easier but they would still have to go to the effort on the pitch to make it successful.

I understand the "go play in the Welsh league" argument but rightly or wrongly those four along with Merythr town have historically for a long period played in the English league setup.

Morning all,

I love reading the posts looking for a balanced conversation and understand the different viewpoints. I get the cup perspective and from what I have read they can still compete in both English competitions but won't qualify if they win either the FA Cup or the league.

From a Welsh perspective it still needs to get the OK from the FA but and i'm not naive its an opportunity to grow the Welsh game, we currently sit something like 49/52 in the coefficient which i think is below the Irish leagues - so the league is pretty poor!

The 4 have agreed not to take financial gain from the competition itself, I think gate receipts etc from matches will go to the Welsh league which would then be spread around those league clubs - I don't think that will include if/when they qualify for Europe!

Raising the standard and quality of the competition is the idea and it will then get reviewed every four years.

I understand the counter arguments and look forward to some healthy debate.

Welsh League / Cup

Personally, I think its great. Hopefully it will improve the standard of the league and give opportunities to challenge themselves against better players. From a Welsh perspective having teams play in Europe - although it is only the conference will also improve the standards.

I get the Welsh teams playing in England thing but and my history isn't great they have done so for at least half a century and Merthyr town play in non league.

Property advice - non QPR
at 13:54 26 Aug 2024

Afternoon all,

I need some advice and I'm aware that some of this distinguished group work in varying aspects of the construction industry. I'm helping my disabled mother buy a property and the latest one that i've been tasked at looking at mentions in the blurb that it "unusually the first floor is a concrete slab.

Does that have a detrimental impact on mortgage ability or a structural impact going forward? I would just like to be fully aware before recommending my mother a dud house.

Here's the link, any advice welcome...

Probably should ask this under the squad thread and before anyone has said I know he's not listed under the touring party but am I right in understanding that Alex Aoraha still injured?

I'd assume a 45 minute run-out for everyone? Possibly one or two staying on for 60? Given we don't actually know who's traveled(officially) i'd be really interested in how Marti approaches this game.

Will we see anything from the youngsters, Ahoura? Kolli? Lloyd? Beenie?
