The Maiden thing has really exploded into life overnight.

I am in touch with musician's, radio stations, music magazines and fans from all corners of the world.

Credit to Phantom Management for taking the band on tours across the planet and especially to South America where the interaction, feedback and enthusiasm is so warm and energising.

STOP PRESS
Contact from Croatia, France, Germany, Chile, Argentina and Scotland too!

Many thanks to Rough Trade in London, Nottingham and New York too.

I think it is Kuffour too ...you would think the club would know how to spell his name.

The Gazette has 'KUFFOUR'

The club have 'KAFFOUR'

I think The Gazette has it correct.

Just read the latest post on there relating to the signing of Kuffour.

Well, not sure if l wasn't right the first time....is it Kuffour or Kaffour?

There are several spelling errors that include that of a country name.

I am sure l make spelling and grammatical errors of my own on here but l do know how to spell the name of a country that is featured in the daily news.

Let's hope the club read this and correct the piece.

STOP PRESS
Well, l have just had to correct the player's surname but at least l proof read and discovered my error....

Now something that l only saw an image of on Saturday during the filming session related to the work with Iron Maiden.

I think the picture was handed to me with the producer saying 'Have you ever seen this?'.

And there it was.....some of my work painted on the wall in the home of Kurt Cobain in Seattle.

He was a fan of the group.

And there are always the strangest of links with these things.

Courtney Love released her 'Dirty Blonde' book around the same time that l released 'Dirty Blonde at the Cash Machine' during 2006.

Kurt Cobain was also painting the Iron Maiden logo ( that l was the first person in the world to see ) on skateboards for friends in Seattle.

It came as a shock and a thrill.

I'm not sure if the band members of Maiden know about this.

And back into music auction mode....we had a shift in on Sunday who collated the LP's by artist...so all l have to do is pick up say four Joy Division albums, or eight Pearl Jam LP's or 20 Bowie albums or 20 by PJ Harvey etc....and scribble the minimum description and price them all....someone else will photograph them and the office girls will key in the copy from my handwriting. My part has to be fast as l have my dog with me....he has been good but my shifts are condensed into around three hours.

One of my colleagues is going through hi - fi systems, mixing desks and guitars....the lion's share of the vinyl records will form the first ever timed vinyl sale that Reeman Dansie have undertaken. This will take place in about 6 weeks time and go online where it will be visible around the entire world.

Every vinyl record or boxed set in this collection appears to be mint condition and unplayed.

Then there is the Star Wars collection. Someone else will do that - but l do have 300 soundtrack albums to process with some connected to Sci fi.

Some of the other artist groups lotted today included Interpol, Brad, The Who, Beatles, Gossip, Goldfrapp, Iron Maiden, Guns n' Roses, Silverfish, Cake, Led Zeppelin etc.

xx

There are many obscure artists from Seattle, and some ultra rare limited editions.

We will be doing that after the next sale.

Evening dog walks last week

Monday. Went past Star Anglia Hotel ( think it's called that ) in North Station Road, Colchester.

It was around 7pm. Took the path down the side.

There is a window open and a couple - a male and female appear to be snorting from a hand within or possibly smoking something.

Tuesday - about the same time.

There are four individuals at the window and three of them have their heads and most of their necks in the window. As best they can.

Wednesday around 7.30.

Just two of them tonight in the window but the Manager or possible owner of the establishment is watching them and looking concerned.

Thursday 7.15

There are four police cars in attendance and the police are smashing down one of the doors at the back of the hotel. A lot of shouting and screaming from within.

Friday - around 8pm

One female is half in the window, possibly trying to climb in.

Couldn't make it last night.

Tonight, around 6.45.

A white male is walking away from the window and shouting obscenities at passer's by and jumps in front of a taxi coming down North Station Road that just manages to swerve around him.

He gets back onto the pavement and starts a crazy dance move before falling into the gutter.

The Iron Maiden debut album lyrics have been subject to scrutiny to confirm the most likely contributors....this is a project l have dipped in and out of over the past six years.

This element may or may not get included in the content of the film as there have been some serious legal issues surrounding this.

I saw something yesterday that reinforced my belief that Dennis Wilcock the Maiden vocalist during 1977 was the most likely source for writing or co-writing / contributing to four particular tracks on the debut album and that he came up with the titles for those songs.

I was shown the ad's he had written for the band that were published in Melody Maker in 1977 / 78. There were some unique word combinations that mirrored his style of copy writing and lyrics.

Some of these ads had appeared in scrapbooks belonging to band members and some were found and copied at The British Library for background info.

I'm not sure if they were part of the evidence to be presented in court around five years ago but they could have made quite a difference in pursuit of an estimated £2.6 million pay out for the writer.

The first hour of this morning was taken up by dismantling the wall of images l had constructed as a backdrop for yesterday's Q&A section relating to the Iron Maiden logo /.name style origin.

I wasn't briefed to do this as l thought we might have done some of it on location but it was just as well l did as we used it exactly as constructed.

These kind of Q&A's often require quite a number of takes. We got many away at the first attempt, some at the second and a couple at the third.

When someone asks a question that requires a two or three sentence reply it's virtually impossible to repeat it....l would have been prepared to have at least five attempts at some of the questions because they raised some quite emotional reactions that l was not expecting.

'The first cut is the deepest' and the first answer will be in a raw form but will likely carry the purest reaction.

A follow up to the previous post.

The research team who are working on the Iron Maiden logo origin are also in touch with George Hardie who designed the Led Zeppelin debut album sleeve together with Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd among others.

This is part of a wider project about record sleeve design and branding.

It's been a fun day.....and doesn't feel in the least bit like work - which is just as well as none of us are getting paid and supply food and refreshments for the most part.

Nine hours of filming today on the Iron Maiden project.

The work is about the logo for the band that we produced in June 1977.

The research team had managed to get the type font books that we used 48 years ago.

I didn't know until 4pm today that the font we used ( known as 'Busk' ) was designed by the late Bush Hollyhead.

I saw a copy of the original design traces for the typeface which were of great interest and are in storage at Brighton University.

That's the lion's share of my input now complete including email Q&A's in Spain, Mexico and Germany.

The team bought some vinyl albums from Iron Maiden spin off's that we sampled in the coffee breaks.

We also discussed ( at length ) the written composition of the early Iron Maiden lyrics to identify the most likely source on five tracks which we believe to be miscredited on the first two albums...that's four on the debut and one on the follow up.

NOTES TO ABOVE -
The first time Busk was ever used was in 1973 for a Charisma Records compilation release. This was shortly after the font was designed and four years before our project.

The typeface was also used on the 1976 film 'The Man Who Fell To Earth' and l was shown multiple uses of Busk on advertising campaigns.

A few more players to add to the list ...Amine Sassi and Zach Littlejohn.....l make that an entire new team signed in around a fortnight.

I think that means five players joined the club yesterday.

I have learned so much from purchasing and following a specialist music auction house in Newton - Le - Willows which is equidistant between two great musical strongholds - those being Liverpool and Manchester.

Omega Auctions is only 15 years old but is surely one of best music auction houses in the world.

The guys up there won't be aware of this but their mode of working is something l can relay down here in Essex and replicate in terms of listing and photography.

At my advanced stage of life l still get a buzz from working with human beings in a commercial environment.

Just as well l can take the dog with me when these assignments come along.

The latest one will span a few weeks.

We start filming in the morning.

Not sure of locations yet, may improvise.

Lunch break in The George, Colchester High Street?

I had so much going on yesterday l thought l was having ( another ) heart attack ....felt better when l woke up this morning.

We have been working on the prep for this over the past couple of years, it would have been quite funny if l had died the day before we starting this thing ....hoping l don't peg out in the night!

Paul Di'Anno ( R.I.P. ) wasn't so lucky

Billy Bates, former West Ham Academy player the latest to sign.

I hope someone is keeping count of the player's coming in and making a list of the guys who will be moving elsewhere ....the revolving door gathers speed!

Another new signing in the past few minutes - the word is out that M&T might be in a position to outbid Colchester United on a target.

These guys are having some fun!

Nothing less than winning their division next season should suffice and they will be hoping to repeat that feat.

It can't be denied that these guys are really going for this.

Have been back to the storage unit to begin the planning for the vinyl auction.

There are David Bowie Limited Edition Boxed Sets, Pearl Jam Boxed Sets, Pixies, Nirvana, Blur, Iron Maiden, Guns 'n Roses, around 50 Nick Cave releases, Placebo....the list is quite considerable,
probably everything ever released on vinyl by PJ Harvey....also books ( Factory / Clash ), songbooks....this is a major project that l appreciate being entrusted with and the next shift begins on Monday.

I will be sorting the lots via individual artists and we are setting up work tops for the task.

Aside from the music are film set components - some of which are worth around £10,000 each....l almost feel that l should be paying to work on this....the collection is from an individual who resided in East London.

Sounds as though l am a little behind on activities at M&T.....no less than eight new players signed in a fortnight together with a considerable refurb to the Drewitt - Barlow Stadium as it is now known - both inside and out.

I can't recall new owners at any level of football making such an impact in such a short time.

Can't imagine they will require a conveyer belt of Colchester United loanees going forward and it will be interesting to see if the two clubs play a pre season 'friendly' next time around.

Yep ...another signing today -

Tyrique Hyde, once of Love Island.

There are also additional back room staff arriving.

The Drewitt Barlow's have a considerable circle of friends and associates.....and lavished three million on a new build and another million on furnishings and decor recently.

They are splashing the cash which is their entitlement.
