Social clubs have a lot to answer for , met the wife there I was a member of Birchgrove social Club, which has long been closed, also Llansamlet which is hanging on , older posters may remember the old Club which was a double decker and the queues to get in on a weekend were something to see.
The closure of clubs which were the centre for the community is really sad but just another indicator of how much society has changed . |  |

Society for all ages now means social media. The days of clubs, works do’s, parties etc. have diminished to a point no one wants to do them.
There were days when entertainment meant going to the theatre or the thrill of going to the cinema in a big auditorium. Saturday morning clubs and The Rank disco for kids. All gone now. They’ve got thousands of ‘friends’ but know very few of them. |  |

The Local Miners Welfare Hall and Workingmens Social Clubs were a challenge to enter as a teen , an established member must countersign your admittance entry first young man .
No entry otherwise and move on , members only .
As mentioned earlier my late dads Weekend treat was Saturday Night at the local WMC .
Bingo , cabaret and chat with the oldies , he looked forward to it , mother never minded .
Drove him down in my Triumph Herald early evening , queues were stretched back onto the street for entry into that Social event , forgot to pick him up later though as promised .
Really think COVID did finish the local boozer and knock on effects still ongoing now .

The Major St Club is still and probably stronger now with the Cwmfelin Club closed, my Grandad, Father and Brother were members for yrs, Grandad and my Father have passed now, but they used to enjoy going there, I used to go there before Christmas lunch with my brother and Dad, not been there for maybe nearing 30yrs, mate of mine still goes there. |  |
