Altrincham FA Trophy Match Thread 20:48 - Feb 28 with 12838 views | EllDale | Does anyone know if, should the teams be level after 90 minutes, the tie goes straight to penalties or would the teams play 30 minutes extra time? Just trying to assess travel options.

Altrincham FA Trophy Match Thread on 10:34 - Mar 3 by onedalefan | Have had a season ticket for many years in the area the drummer and his pals decided to stand. Had to move because they had no intention of sitting down, it was obvious that nothing was going to be said to them and the atmosphere was awful. Typical young idiots who think they are people to be proud of. |
Awful? Seriously? Was a refreshing change from the usual Pearl Street grumbles which were mostly drowned out by a decent atmosphere for once. Has to be the most negative set of clueless football fans I have ever sat amongst and I have been going to Dale for near on 30 years now. Some notes. "Gerrit forward" - couldn't hear - thumbs up from me for that "Shoooot" - despite it being 40 yards out, on the said players wrong foot and behind him. The drum did a good job of muffling these wild calls. *Granted, a number of them can act like absolute bell ends but for once the Pearl Street was a more positive place to be.

Altrincham FA Trophy Match Thread on 11:18 - Mar 3 by TVOS1907 | Well it might do, but not in this instance. TAR was booked along with an Alty player after a set-to by the corner flag. Gilmour dragged back one of their players who was breaking free. Mitchell went in late on one of theirs on the halfway line. Beckwith was booked for time-wasting at a late goal kick. Can't recall what Bird was carded for. |
Bird was booked for (kind of, it was soft) kicking the ball away after a free kick had been awarded against him, although later in the game an Alty player did the same and the ref did not book him. [Post edited 3 Mar 11:53]

I thought the atmosphere was better with some good player related songs, which for me are always better than negative anti Bury or Oldham ones. Waller was made up to hear his song before the game. If they are going to move there permanently then supporters need to know before season tickets go on sale then people can adjust accordingly when they make their decisions. It may be bad that people feel they have to move, but there are enough seats elsewhere and sometime a trade off has to be made.

They were 2-0 down at the time, so they weren't gaining an advantage from delaying the restart, which is what those bookings are usually for. [Post edited 3 Mar 12:06]

Interesting - I'd have said one of the strengths of Saturday's performance was 'professional' fouls which stopped their breakaways (eg Gilmour's shirt tug) and more robust tackling which inevitably can lead to late tackles - even the time wasting could be seen as 'managing the game'. How we all see things differently.

You're right, but the bookings weren't really in what could be called 'front foot' positions, as initially intimated.

Altrincham FA Trophy Match Thread on 16:44 - Mar 3 with 735 views | mikehunt | Didn't we have four games in hand at this stage of the season, because of pitch issues and cup matches, and we beat the odds and sent the Oldham down? Jim and Hendo were in that squad so should know all about those kinds of pressures and how to deal with them effectively.

We also had KH as manager, who -whilst perhaps no longer at his best - had enough in his armoury to enforce a draw with Spurs and utilise his squad so they were running through brick walls over that period The comparison i'd be inclined to make is obvious

These lads are mad keen fans and create a great atmosphere. There is the odd occasional moment of excess sometimes when they get a bit giddy but so what? It’s worth remembering that there may be games when a lot more of their mates turn up as well. I think the solution next season is to give them what they want ie the whole of that end block in the Pearl Street. There can’t be existing season ticket holders there this year because by and large it’s been used for visiting supporters. Make the entire block unreserved and let them get on with it in their own enclave. The only issue may arise when the Willbutts Stand is full for big games when that part of the ground might become confrontational corner. As for away fans, I seem to remember a game just over 20 years ago (I think it was Torquay in Steve Parkin’s first game back) when the away fans were accommodated in the far end of the Main Stand. Like you say, the decision needs to be made prior to season tickets going on sale.
