Gerry Francis in 1993 ditched our first all black kit after one disastrous outing wearing it, a 4-1 gubbing at Villa Park first game of the season, thinking it was unlucky and it never saw the light of day again. We replaced it with the all red kit we won at St James's Park in later that season.
If I was Marti, I'd insist that when the hoops can't be worn, the black kit is worn.

I find this thread hilarious. We're just not very good away from home, as we're proving again and again, and people want to fixate on the (admittedly unfathomable) colour of our shirts. Talk about an exercise in collective denial!
I accidentally upvoted this meant to just hit reply.
No one is fixating on kit over performance. It's a separate thread, separate discussion. We can comment or fixate on performance on several other threads.
We are passionate about our club and passionate about our kits.

I don't know why they also don't revive the green and white hoops either?
Sure we look like Celtic but its part of our history.
2nd kit choices for us should always be..
1st Dennis the menac 2nd black 3rd white and red halves 4th green and white hoops
And for play offs or finals if needing a 2nd all red with black shorts or all white.
Why not just blue and white home, black and red away. That's it. End of. No changes, no third kits, no fourth kits. Like the good old days of the 80s. Anything else is just money driven bollix

Without wanting to blame everything on the kit (but maybe it is the kit??), there's probably a good reason you don't get many gold kits; it's not really a strong/vibrant colour and arguably players might have more trouble picking out their team mates, equally psychologically I wouldn't say it's a very inspirational colour either.
So yes let's not speak of it again and hopefully there's a return to Dennis the Menace next season.
I think its clutching at straws to blame the kit, we've only won once in the Black kit this season, basically we haven't been very good away from home whatever we are wearing

No it is definitely the kit Dave. No other logical reason for the defeats. :)
I'd like to see the results data for teams playing in various away kits including the standard home kit. That would tell us if there's anything in the psychology of colours.
That aside, I think teams should play in their home kits wherever possible. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a negative psychological aspect to playing in any away kit.

Think I saw some stat that said the most successful teams play in red.
Probably skewed though by the sheer number of teams that play in red though!
Gold, on the other hand, can be associated with arrogance and superficiality, which could give the opposition a psychological advantage if they view the team as being ‘all bark and no bite’.
As ‘concept’ kits go, this ain’t bad, just shove an old crest in the background and use a colour that has no association with the club. 👌 Would have been cool if this kit was white with blue trim so it was a proper tribute to our old home kit.
That aside, I actually like it and thought it looked much better in the flesh. Shame it keeps causing us to lose.
