Walsh

Ashby Clarke Salter Edwards Santos

DIxon-Bonner Colback

Lloyd Madsen Saito

Kolli

Obviously know there will be a lot of players rested but will Marti try to keep the run going.

If my predicted team above wins, we would truly need to be calling Marti the new Messiah.

Anyone else want to predict the team ??

If we were playing Plymouth on Saturday in a bit of a dead rubber league game would anyone be calling for 10 changes?

Play our best team, go to a Premier League team and beat them, set up an exciting 4th round game, I don't want to see a reserve team, likes of Santos, Dixon-Bonner, Madsen just not good enough and should be nowhere near the team this or any weekend.

The voice of sanity. 4,000 tickets sold.

What's the point of supporting QPR if not for fun and excitement. "Avoid injuries" is not going to send me into dreamland.

We have just pulled away from a relegation dog fight , just starting to get some injured players back .
why risk any of that ?

If it was me I would pick my best starting 11 for Plymouth . None of those players would start at Leicester . Morgan should left at home , along with Nardi , Dunnne , Smyth and Field all have come through the Xmas period unscathed but with big minutes played . Of course I want to beat Leicester but to be honest I would rather beat Plymouth ..

How about we try and win both games and the Hull one as well?

They've got almost a full week before the Leicester game then a clear week before Plymouth. The yearly talk over what team to pick for this fixture does my head in

1 game in 10 days.
Then the cup game.
Then three games in 20 days.

Bang-middle of the table.

No African Cup of Nations.

If we don't field our best available eleven now we may as well put a sign up outside HQ saying.

Don't think you are far off the team there Numpty

So our Squad XI vs Leicester B team XI

Walsh
Ashby JCS Edwards Paal (possibly the Fox in the box)
EDB Colback
Saito Andersen Lloyd
Kholli

Be lovely to play the strongest side possibly, but that ship as sailed for nearly every club now, it is just not done
If the above is played, or close to it, and we lose, there will be the normal whinge , not taking it serious, no respect to the fans etc.
But soon forgotten as we are now customer to it. Sad really

Suicidal midfield which would see us rightly get dumped on our arses - with the attendant implications for our confidence, not to mention the pulses of quaint fans like me who actually give a sh*t about the F A Cup.

Colback only just coming back from what feels like an eternity out, EDB, who hasn't really featured at all this season, and the injury-prone Andersen, who can't run or play - what a brainwave!

I'd be going with a strong side and strong bench to rotate it. Frey, Chair and JCS all need the minutes, and should get them.

You've convinced me, Brian. Strongest 11 v Leicester it is.

Love all this "best team" business. What's our best back four? Not the one that started the last two games. Who's best at pressing a PL level back four (Coady excepted!)? Probably not Frey, possibly Kolli. But who's the best finisher?

Leicester will eat Fox and Dunne alive in the centre. But is JCS fit for 90? Do we know enough of Edwards? Does Dunne go RB in our best team?

Colback looked very calm when he came on. Is he better or worse in this kind of game, of which he has much experience, than Varane or Morgan who have zero? We have spent an enormous amount money (relatively) on a technical midfielder in Madsen: might this game suit him more than some of our other midfielders?

I don't know. But I'm not watching hours and hours of Leicester games, with all the QPR data to match, not privy to training nor injuries, and am in no way qualified even if I was to pass judgement on any of it really (just like all here). Marti Cifuentes is.

Marti was talking about playing Frey last night and bringing on Lloyd because of the opposition. Does that mean they're better than Kolli? Don't think so. It means he's looked at the bigger picture rather "best elevens" or any of that old fashioned nonsense.

He'll pick teams for each task, each game, as the squad gets fitter. If he brings in Saito for Smyth, or JCS for Fox, Colback for Varane...is he weakening the team? If he keeps the same eleven, that's not his best team but it's a winning team.

So...I'm just gonna wait until 1:00pm on Saturday and trust in Marti. If we get beat 3-0, well, Swansea did that. No need for banners whatever the outcome.

Our best team isn't the ones suggested featuring Santos, Madsen, DIxon-Bonner etc doing the usual of basically throwing the game.

We could bring in Clarke-Salter, Edwards and Colback for the weekend and still be strong, the aim has to be to go with a strong team and try and win the game just as we would for any other game left this season.

I feel Dunne, Field, Smyth all deserve/need a rest.

I'm sure Walsh will be in goal. Otherwise, i havent a clue. But neither does a body else outside the management team.

Honestly if we were playing Plymouth in a dead rubber game I would want to see 3 or 4 from the development squad . Love seeing young players making a first team debut

would they want a rest or a chance to play against a Premier League team with a chance of beating them.

if we are going to rest players and rotate the squad the Plymouth and Hull games with 2 very long journeys within a few days is when you do it imo

I reckon he might give Walsh a game in goal, but it'll definitely be a team that Cifuentes imagines is strong enough to win. It'll be made up from the eleven and bench from last night, surely, but perhaps in a different order.

I'd be amazed if Santos plays - but he did score in the cup this season already!

Keep the same team
Leicester are there for taking and will be resting players we are not going down this year so why not give the cup a go for once

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

As sure as night follows day , the annual split down the middle of the ‘play our best team or what’s the point ‘ versus ‘rest the players who need it as the league is more important ‘ war of words has started.

Agree with points made on both sides but one thing fans forget is we can’t see the data that the management can see on certain players . I tend to think that for this reason Dunne , Smyth , Field and Nardi might be rested / benched just to ease their load as I can imagine some of the same voices shouting loudest on here if Jimmy gets injured for 6-8 weeks with a ‘muscle’ injury.
Some of you may not like that but that’s how it is these days .
That said, i think we should go have a go at Leicester with a strong side with no fear and a free hit with a big following getting right behind them .

Marti can’t win whatever he decides …..unless we miraculously win an FA cup match of course .

Yep the team i suggested wasnt the one i want, as we all would ideally want a team that gives us the best chance, but all clubs seem to offer these cup games, little respect these days.

We will, of course be playing a weakened Leicester team, and they have lost five games on the bounce recently anyhow and with Van Nistelrooy as new man at the helm, a lesser team for them, perhaps got more to prove for them to impress a new boss.

Actually, some of our fringe players, likewise would have an opportunity to show Marti of their capabilities too.

One player, I would like to see given a run out from the start is Daniel Bennie. Nothing to lose and everything to gain, for me.

Cifuentes can win. He can play his strongest available team.

If players are genuinely in the red zone, then their minutes will be managed accordingly, as they would be for a league game. But most - most - players will be well rested before Leicester, and will be well rested in an empty January.

What usually happens, though, is that fit players are deliberately parked as mid-table Division 2 football is prioritised.

That's not resting. That's not sports science. That's a conscious choice not to compete in two out of the three trophies our club 'competes' in.

Sports science aside, if players get injured, then they get injured. They could get injured in training.

And besides all of that, they're footballers for a club that exists to try and win things.

I can't imagine any restrictions on Edwards, as he's only just joined on a rest of the season loan.
Ashby may be different but he's not going to get in at Newcastle ATM.

In your eyes and many others Brian , yes.
But many don’t see it like that in equally ,let’s say , slightly grumpy terms , and that’s the point of my post.
Same every year . Both sides of the argument .

Unfortunately we are once again in a position where we are not completely safe from being sucked back into that dogfight at the bottom and some people including the club I would imagine would rather be sure of Championship football next year than some notion of us winning the FA Cup which are such long odds . Pick up a suspension on Saturday and a bad injury or 2 (see Mackie and Faurlin for previous FA cup 3rd round career threateners ) to important players and MC will be lynched for risking them. All hypothetical of course but it’s an understandable fear ….to some .

Not my opinion , before I start getting pelters but a bigger picture view I can understand without fully agreeing with .

I do get the other point of view, Mart. And I'm not being grumpy.

Just pointing out that this January we are slap-bang in mid-table and as rested as we'll ever be.
