SAFCin peace seems like a reasonable bloke with well-balanced views, but sorry not having a supporter from another club start our match thread. We have feck all left without losing that.

Missed opportunity for three points perhaps but with a weakened side against the top team in the division I'll take that point (and a clean sheet) all day long. We looked much more solid in midfield with Varane (my MoM) and Morgan in there. Morgan faded badly second half as you'd expect but this kid has bags of potential and even though he gave away some sloppy passes in the second half at least he was looking for a forward ball (unlike Varane). Celar's best half for us in the second half, if only that shot had crept in, you can see he's a confidence player.
If (big if) we can get 3 points against Middlesborough on Tuesday then that's been a good 3 games. They had a poor result at home today so I'm not sure how Tuesday will go. |  | | |

The days of 10 V 11 and expectation to win are virtually over. When you can send on 5 subs you can change half the team and keep it fresh... as long as you do what Sunderland and Plymouth do... 2 banks of 4 keep it tight...

Plymouth didn't do so brilliantly last time they went down to ten at Cardiff two weeks ago. They were 2-0 down and ended up losing 5-0. I've no data to back it up but I think it makes a difference if the side that has 11 is leading at the time. [Post edited 2 Nov 17:12]

I guess many of us might have taken a point before the game, but it has to be 2 points dropped - and badly dropped - in the circumstances. To be honest, though we had pretty much all of the ball for that last 35 minutes, we were probably even less effective with it than against 11. Ponderous, slow, and uninspired just about covers it. Apart from Dunne's header straight at him, their keeper didn't have to make a save. Sunderland should have been one up at least from the first half, so we rode our luck more than they did.
Even though we competed a lot better and had a much more credible physical shape and strength, I just don't see where the goals are coming from in this team to pull away from the basement. The lack of real quality throughout the side is alarming. [Post edited 2 Nov 17:13]

We haven't looked dangerous all season. Given our propensity for losing to teams we should have a chance of beating...means we ain't getting out of the bottom three any time soon. I've stopped watching us TBH, as we are eye meltingly bad. Stopping two of the better teams in this turgid league from scoring against us in consecutive games...is the only positive in a bleak season so far. I wonder will we actually win a home game before 2025 ?🤔 |

Well another clean sheet against a top team is something to behold as a positive.
Trouble is it's another home game we haven't won and another game where we couldn't beat Sunderland which started when they knocked us out of the League cup as a league 1 side. We should have won in Sunderland last season but failed to score against a team on the beach and we just needed a goal today against 10 men but we were even more inept in front of goal.
If we continue the rest of the season winning one in 12 we will be relegated with just 4 wins all season reminiscent of our first ever season in division 1. I just cannot see a goal in us and by the next window it may be too late. |  | | |

Quite the variance in opinions after that! Thought we more than held our own first half against a side better and considerably more on form than we were. Little disappointing that we couldn't create and put away chances when they went down to 10 but that feels very on brand for us.

Sunderland not nearly as expansive as I was imagining and nothing too much to be scared of.
I have no idea why he didn't throw another striker on when they went down to ten. Sunderland defended our approach play pretty well and then it was 3 against 1 or 4 against 2 when we did get the ball into the box.

Much better performance and we were the better team agains the divisions top side. Obviously let down by our inability to score, but at least we’re not conceding. I thought Madsen had his best game and looks a lot better playing higher up the pitch. I think we’re slowly moving in the right direction but desperately need goals. |  | | |

I guess it is slightly different if you are already 2-0 down. Be an interesting stat though. But it does seem a lot more sides hold out now, with the advent of more subs.

Totally with you on lack of pace. I think it's our biggest collective flaw. We're always looking for a player to pass to, instead of passing to where you know he's going to be. We did the latter first half against Hull and came up against an in-form keeper, since then we've gone back into our shell. It's probably a confidence thing. | | | |

Loads of negativity on here, but I just don't feel that. We have competed over the last three games, which is massive compared to the three performances before that which were utterly dire.
Yes its a low bar and yes that starting XI and bench were as weak as anything Ainsworth was forced to put out, BUT Varane and Madsen showed that there is something there - both good today.
Celar met the bare minimum for once and was running about a bit although his first half miss was diabolical.
Loads of injuries and two points in two against two of the top three...
