Just as Saints thought they were getting close to signing Weston McKennie another hurdle has come up and it is one that we might not be able to overcome.
Saints thought they were almost home and dry with Schalke's Weston McKennie when they matched the asking price and Hertha Berlin dropped out of the running when the player declared that he wanted to play in the Premier League
Now that desire is likely to be tested with Italian Giants Juventus said to be interested in signing him.
Media outlet Sports 1 reports that Juventus have ‘suddenly got involved’ in the race for his signature.
They claim that Juve chief Fabio Paratici has already asked Schalke’s ‘squad planner’ Michael Reschke about McKennie and has made it clear they would be ‘willing’ to pay Schalke’s €25m asking price.
It’s also explained that ‘it is no longer a secret’ that McKennie wants to leave the German club, with him even left out of training and only permitted to take part in ‘individual units’ to avoid picking up an injury.
This might be a hurdle that Saints might not be able to overcome, Juventus secured their ninth consecutive Serie A title in the summer and have qualified for this seasons Champions League, will this prove too tempting for McKennie or does he truly want to play in the Premier League.
