According to the latest reports from the rumour mill Ralph Hasenhuttl is set to sign a fellow countryman.
The latest to be linked with Saints is LASK Linz winger Thomas Goiginger, the player who has been with the Austrian Bundesliga club for two years after signing on a free transfer from Blau Weis Linz in the summer of 2017 is described by the Daily mail as a forward, but is more of a conventional winger able to play on either side.
His first season was successful playing 33 League games with 7 goals and 5 assists as Linz finished 4th and made the Europa League qualifying rounds for 2018/19 season.
Goiginger started as he had left off scoring 3 times in the Europa League in 4 games before Linz were eliminated by Besiktas.
It was a another strong season for the Salzburg born winger in the League starting 30 and another appearance off the bench with 6 goals and 11 assists in another great season for Linz who are not seen as one of the Austrian giants.
At 26 his success has taken some time to come and he has yet to win a cap for Austria but his record over the past two seasons has led to him being linked with a move to a bigger club.
Whether his name being mentioned alongside Saints is purely lazy journalism with Ralph Hasenhuttl being the most famous Austrian in the Premier League at present or if it has any real substance is unclear, the Daily Mail say that Hasenhuttl has been chasing him since January but Linz have been reluctant to sell
but with the transfer fee being quoted as £5 million he could be worth a punt, although it has to be said when a player comes from one of the lesser European leagues it is a big step up to the Premier League and some can make it others can't.
In the meantime all we can do is bring his name up and wait to see whether this deal has any legs.
