The Stinging Nettle was, is and will remain a tragic destruction of a previously fantastic QPR pub and should be boycotted on principal.
Name of pub: The Stinging Nettle (formerly the Bush Ranger when it was a pub)
Location: 55, Goldhawk Road (next to Goldhawk Rd tube station)
Size: Medium
Selection of beers? It’s a Young’s pub so you can forget decent beers. Best off drinking from the urinals in the gents.
Price of drinks? Go and see your bank manager before visiting.
How full does it get on a matchday? Erm, apart from the two staff, it’s empty usually.
How fit are the bar staff? Very unfit as they have nothing to do but pick their noses all day as the place is empty most of the time.
How long does it take to walk to the ground from there? Ten minutes.
Sky Sports/ESPN? TV is for oiks, apparently.
Suitable for away fans? If they like seeing loads of empty seats then yes - Middlesbrough fans should feel at home.
Suitable for families and kids? Only suitable for families with kids.
What's the smoking situation? It’s what one does outside on the pavement.
Beer garden? On the Goldhawk Rd? Dream on.
As far as pub toilets go, just how bad are these? Very small but very clean and they actually have hand soap.
Does it serve food and is it any good? Overpriced poncy food, anyone for a £7 greek salad ???
Trendy modern bar, traditional pub or somewhere in between? Looks like an art gallery but with less visitors.
In one sentence why should people visit/steer clear of this pub? When it was a Fullers pub, The Bush Ranger , it was packed Saturday afternoons before and after a game and the same for midweek games. They had Sky TV for any sports fans in general. I used to use it when visiting the Bush Empire for evening gigs and it was also usually full with gig goers. Now it’s empty seven days a week. When will the owners realise?
Any other business? I was gutted when Fullers got rid of the pub as I've never come across a bad Fullers boozer - even the food is decent. It’s the total opposite with Young’s pubs. And I can't see many takers at £49.50 for a bottle of Veuve.
