Poor old Ziyad carried off on a stretcher in the game against Hearts. Was really hoping he’d come back better after a solid loan spell. Let’s hope he’s ok.
It's never good seeing a player being taken off on a stretcher but Ziyad's case was funny in retrospect. It was a communication problem between Paris and Dundee. Ziyad had cramp and said he needed a stretch. His accent was a problem to the Dundonian ear, and a stretcher was called for. By the time Ziyad realised what was happening it was too late to stop the stretcher team carting him off, ignoring his protestations. Just as well we won 3-1 anyway.
He's been fantastic for Dundee. He needs to work on his defending, which is ok but can improve. His attacking is tremendous, however. He is fast, skillful and relentless. And he finishes well. He almost scored late in the game on Sunday but was denied by a fantastic save. He then took a full blooded clearance right in the face at close range. It pole-axed him, but after a damp sponge he picked himself up and won the game for us! Top man!
His 90+4 minute winner sums him up. He made a pass on the half way line, then sprinted into the penalty area to turn in the cutback. Even the opposing manager praised him after the match for his attitude. "He wanted that goal more than my defenders wanted to stop him". Ziyad Larkeche is proving very, very popular.
I love the second photo in this Instagram post with Ziyad racing away to celebrate, the defence in despair, and the fans going wild in the background. That's what football is about. https://www.instagram.com/p/DB9DJruIaRO/?img_index=2

That's great to hear, thanks for the report. Notable that you mention being "relentless", a goal we scored last season came out of Larkeche chasing a lost cause in the corner, I forget who it was against but we all commented on his desire at the time.

I've always had a soft spot for Dundee ever since 10 year old me chose to play as them in the Scottish league on FIFA 2000 and I've always followed them from afar ever since. I really do want to try and get to Dens Park one day, particularly since this new stadium move might become a reality in X years (no new stadiums ever likely down here...)
Really sad news with Fabian Caballero recently too, that 2001-2004 Dundee period was a bit mad.
However, the concept of last minute home winners, opposing defences in despair and fans going wild in the background is all a bit of an alien concept to us down here at the moment. We're just used to everyone in the away end having a jolly old time all afternoon whilst we go home and grumble about another wasted afternoon of our lives on the internet.

When he was asked post-match about the effort he made to get into a position to score he said that 2-2 at home wasn't good enough and they had to win.
Edit: Is this the one you're thinking of? QPR 4 Stoke 2. Ben Pearson (og 89) to make it 3-2. Assist Ziyad Larkeche.

I hope you make it to Dundee sometime. It was awful about Caballero. He was such a talented player but was so unlucky with injuries.
See from 4:14 onwards here for your guy enjoying his job.
Thanks for the update which is good to hear and how a loan should work - player goes to another club to play games and develop with a view to returning and being a better player. It's what should have happened with Sinclair last season and Lloyd this. At least with Larkeche, he seems to have got a good club which is the most important thing, and they appear to be helping him develop, and he "should" return a much better player, although whether he's good enough remains to be seen.

Larkeche is giving his career a good boost this season. People are noticing him up here. If QPR don't want him there will be a queue of clubs trying to sign him. I'd love Dundee to keep him, but I don't think that's realistic.

In the meantime, we continue to play a number of players out of position at LB - only at QPR
Starting to find his feet at Dundee now. Fans were not impressed with him early on but improving as time goes on.
"a diseased bunch of mofos if there ever was one, their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons."
- Lester Bangs on The Beach Boys
Being the only QPR supporter in Carnoustie I’m often asked why we sent him out on loan. I just shrug, put my hands over my face and order another drink.
Ah yet another player who gets better by not playing QPR matches.
Last season he was definitely a useful impact sub (often playing further forward than LB) but I don't recall seeing much that suggested he is a definite starter at LB for us.
Anyway hope he continues to do well at Dundee and if we can benefit from that improved form in the future.
Really positive stuff which is great, but also with the astronomical caveat that Niko Hamalainen thrived at Kilmarnock before we put him back into the team

Some players need games
We are slowly seeing that with a couple of our new signings
Am hopeful Larkeche comes back next season and kicks on.
I saw enough myself to think he could have a future for us.
