A big light shone on the owners on 17:01 - Aug 21 with 2786 views | Dr_Winston | Much of it is your usual football supporter whining about signings. You can tell these people that the club is already living at the very edge of and perhaps beyond its means, but they don't care. They demand signings like a toddler demands sweeties. Questions as to why we're that stretched financially, and why we decided to indulge Martin and spend over £1m on a central defender (no disrespect to HD, he does look good) when other areas of the squad needed more attention are justified.

A big light shone on the owners on 17:01 - Aug 21 with 2784 views | KeithHaynes | It has always been the case at Swansea, always spend what you have or in huws case what you might have. Ish. We’ve never had anyone who has cash at the helm of the club, the club today may well be owned by anyone who hasn’t got any money, because if you are not putting anything in then it really doesn’t matter on the financial front.

A big light shone on the owners on 17:02 - Aug 21 with 2784 views | jasper_T | We've brought in 4. Players banished to the reserves/home or sent out on loan. Managers can be clever at making a squad look small when they want something (see Cooper playing Cullen in the run-in). We've spent more cold hard cash than many at this level. I know some people hate to see kids on the bench but if we want to keep an academy open we need to be involving youngsters and giving them opportunities. Josh Thomas is on there because Garrick, Whittaker and Joseph have all been sent out. Congreve looks like he merits an inclusion. Martin was talking Cooper up last season and in this.

I am not defending or judging anything with this one Vetch, I just want to see what people's views are towards the board, what others think regards the board with all this that has opened up in the last 24hrs. Read the Ian Walsh BBC article and just wanted to be open minded and see what others thought on it all.

Ian Walsh is clueless. Another person attached to the club with nothing to contribute of value. Walsh and co wanted Huw jenkins out. They got their wish. Jenkins left Swansea with Potter in charge and under contract. Walsh slags off the owners for not giving Martin even more signin s while the one he has are playing dismally. From BBC Wales {Walsh described Swansea's performance against the Hatters as "shocking" and that the situation is "concerning". "For all the possession they had they were woeful," added Walsh, who spent two years at Swansea under John Toshack in the early 1980s. "It was exactly what it was like against Blackburn a couple of weeks back - lack of movement, slow, predictable, no direction, playing like robots and no flair. } Martin needs to bite the bullet and bring in help in these aspects not ditch 10 fringe players. Martin has to improve players not ship them out. He has not resolved the wing back problems solved by loans last season in Wolf and Christie. Walsh added ["It was all things that need to change if Swansea are going to get out of this really poor start. There must be a Plan B, there must be a different way of playing." } [Post edited 21 Aug 2022 17:19]

No issue with youngsters on the bench; this is a fairly young squad anyway. It seems that Joe aside we are mainly recruiting with a hopeful eye on resale value and wanting to offload some players on higher wages to cut costs. Whether some of our recruitment/contract decisions have provided value for money would be an interesting topic for debate but full of speculation without knowing the exact details. As others have said on this thread, the main aim of the owners through Winter seems to be running the club at cost neutral. Our own youngsters are an important part of that. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

A big light shone on the owners on 18:45 - Aug 21 with 2557 views | cadleigh | Yeah, to be fair if he really did say ‘I spoke to the Board on Friday and they said their level of ambition for this coming season is for me to finish at least 14th (but no pressure to do any better) and to showcase some players for selling in the next transfer windows’, then he is a dead man walking. He’s not managing expectations for supporters, he’s getting his retaliation in before they give him the pen and the non-disclosure agreement. In fact I think he’s negotiating his pay-off in public.

A big light shone on the owners on 18:47 - Aug 21 with 2551 views | jojaca | If Martin knew money was tight, why buy two centre half's when right wing back was the highest priority. We have Cabango/Naughton/Manning/Lati/Cooper/Bennett that are still at the club that could play centre half. Surely that's bad use of the money from Russell Martin.

He's much better with the ball at his feet than Benda. A lot of his distribution now is actually pretty good. He looks shaky when we put him under unnecessary pressure, but so would any keeper with the way we fart around at the back. He's not showing that he's an improvement in any other aspect though.

He doesn’t command his area and is relatively weak on crosses, yesterday’s first goal an example if that. There've been others.

Top tier squad that's stretching it. If it was golf would say we are about 4 over par at the moment. We under achieved last season but the squad is worse this as it stands. Christie and Wolf have not been replaced. Piroe is sulking. [Post edited 21 Aug 2022 21:11]

There is far worse denialism going on elsewhere but yes, you are right. We are 20th and if the two teams below us take their games in hand we are back in the relegation zone. And people are telling us to look at how few wins we would need to be challenging for promotion. I’m sorry to say it, but this is the same mentality as racking up humungous debt, losing your job and pretending to your partner that you are still going to work every day, remortgaging the house and betting the whole lot at the local bookies. It might pay off. Maybe better have a Plan B in case it doesn’t.

A big light shone on the owners on 21:18 - Aug 21 with 2224 views | Jack11 | Yeah have to agree with the comments from Badlands and cadleigh. When you read that article on the bbc website there’s some quite telling comments from Martin. “That's why I tried to be realistic with the expectation in the summer." Realistic to whom exactly? Presumably the owners, Silverstein and or Winter. Tells me that someone within the club expects more than what we’re producing. On our budget being modest…'people at the club might get upset with me saying that' Going rogue. A last throw of the dice to leverage? Someone who’s already on their way out? 'but I am the only guy that ever talks to you and I will talk to you honestly' This again is a barbed comment from him. Not sure what he’s trying to achieve by saying it. Whichever way it can all be interpreted, the whole thing was an interesting read and had the tell tale signs of a manager on very borrowed time.

Spot on Cadleigh - and I know precisely who and where you mean. There's a theme of glossing over reality - which to some extent I can understand by those with a tight vested interested in appearing all-schmoozy with the club, but at the same time I cringe at the lack of objectivity and proper independent reporting. And yet it's worse than not having that plan B - there's a distinct lack of nous to make this work. And THAT is what should be reported and focussed upon to hold all perpetrators to account. Accountability is king. Deflectionism right now so ain't the tonic. Stand up and be counted, proper fans, reporters, journalists, all folks.

. Which is precisely what should be reported, in depth. With proper objectivity. Pros and Cons of Martinball. Where the Cons side of the ledger is rich with proper, deep dive analysis and constructive critique of the big ticket Martinball failings that got us to 15th last year (from 4th and a Playoff Final) and now a humiliating 20th. Martin needs to be held to account for his failings and what he intends to do to fix it. It surely has to be beholden on fans' sites like this to investigate and report back to us proper fans on what's actually occurring at our Club, with proper itk insight. .

We haven't replaced two players that were weak links last season. The most shocking thing is that Latibeaudiere wasn't actually that much of a downgrade on what we got from Christie after his first few weeks. Sorinola can't beat a man but Wolf didn't either, though he did work hard defensively without being in any way a defender.
