He's going to be working without his "tactical genius" for the first time, but he does have James Beattie there with him so it's not all bad.
Suspect it's make or break for him. His stint at Leeds went some way towards rehabilitating his reputation after the disaster he made of this job, but if he f*cks up at Boro there won't be many painting him as the bright young hope of English management. |  |

Monk has his strengths and weaknesses as a manager.
He's an intelligent, well spoken guy and that helps a lot in the way that he gets respect from the players. It helped us enormously when he took over from Laudrup. Laudrup knew more about football than Monk will ever know, but it seemed that Laudrup knew very little about squad discipline.
Monk was great when he was playing with the tactics he'd inherited from previous managers, but lost when he had to think of his own game plan. It all went wrong when we signed Cork and a winger was sacrificed to accommodate him.
He'll be decent for Boro. Just as long as they ditch him if they get promoted. |  | | |

Wasn't Garry on a one year contract with leeds, and he resigned pretty much day and date after the takeover. one would assume he was looking at not having his contract renewed or at least in the fashion he was after. Either way, I imagine Leeds fans a bit chuffed at it, as I believe it was the first glimmer of hope they've had in sometime. |  |
