Payet did very well to get VW sent off. Clangerburg didn't see it as Song was in his view, so he guessed, and got it wrong. Strong yellow at best, West Ham ran out of ideas so reverted to old habits of time wasting and cheating by calling for hand ball every time someone headed the ball. Poor game good win for Saints.

Great backs to the wall effort, particularly from the back five. Wanyama can count himself unlucky to be sent off for the tackle as Clattenburg totally bought Payets overreaction. It was no worse than some of the WHU tackles that were made during the match which were deemed yellow card offenses. That said Wanyama is becoming a liability in these situations with discipline and Saints were better with Romeu in the side.

IF THE ARSENAL match was a game of one goalkeeper, this was a game of two outfielders, Yoshida and Wanyama. Now I'm not one of those contributors who are always on Yoshida's back, indeed I am usually supportive of him, but yesterday he would have been my MOM even if he hadn't scored. This was an assured, solid performance, unhurried by the incoming attackers and at times insouciant, (though even I could hardly watch when he did a reverse-ferret in his own penalty area with the Wham attack right beside him)! As for the goal, well it wasn't pretty but it had the element of surprise which was enough, and lets face it, John Terry has scored many a similar goal and been praised for it. Now to Wanyama. Up to the sending off he had a pretty decent game, but he is basically hot-tempered and clumsy and therefore always a risk to the rest of the team. It was always a matter of time before he went into the referee's book and from where I was sitting I wasn't surprised that it was red. However, like others on this site I have since watched it again on MOTD and now I'm not so sure. It was certainly clumsy but it wasn't aggressive and Payet made more of it than was necessary - did anyone else see the big grin on his face after the sending off? Very unattractive. So whilst I am critical of Wanyama for putting us all through nearly 45 minutes of buttock-clenching discomfort for the remainder of the match, perhaps he wasn't entirely to blame.

What a grind that was. Tough being a supporter on days like this, like most I thought we'd concede sooner or later but the luck and good organisation won the day. Good job WHU were woeful in the final third and even worse at shooting than us.

Vic? What can you say, Morgan was just the same. Sooner or later under pressure they lose the plot and dive in. A Red was fair given the number of verbal warnings that he had had from Clattenburg before that, virtually every tackle he made was whistled up as a foul.

Charlie Austin looked a bit static after Pelle and will need to put himself about a lot more than this, he is not another Jay Rodrigues that's for sure so must battle like Pelle, win the first balls and hold it up for the fast runners. He needs time to adapt and settle in so next season looks to be when he will be at his best and most effective. Right now Pelle deserves to be first choice.

Big shout out for Maya Yoshida, what a smashing bloke to have on the bench and not moaning week after week.

Stand out players for me where Soares and Long, Yoshida had a good game but I still didn't feel confident that he was on the same wave length as the rest of the team. I thought VW was playing badly before he was sent off, Romeu looks a lot better IMO. However Payet was a cheat in my view, conning the ref is cheating in my book and if i could have 3 football wishes at the top would be retrospective reviews to ensure that cheating receives a ban of some kind

Unfortunately this game is being talked about for all the wrong reasons. We had the upper hand and scored early on, but after about 25 mins, we decided to sit back, let West Ham back into the game, then chase the ball for a couple of mins before giving it straight back to them. We defended resolutely after the red card and could and perhaps should have scored a couple more on the break. Good work guys.

Vic was stupid to make such a rash challenge and I can see why he was shown a red, but having had the luxury of watching it from many angles, clearly there is no contact (even Bilic confirmed this ffs), no scissors action and it is definitely not a red (only given due to players surrounding the ref) - but perhaps a yellow. I say perhaps a yellow, because this is my grudge - consistency !! Payet dived many times in the game, or made the most of tackles to win free kicks. - like the one in the corner from which Hammers had their only header on goal, and obviously the red card incident. He was clearly acting, even holding his other leg at one stage and yes, he was smiling about it. Should have got a card for diving. He later did as bad a foul, but didn't get a card, Valencia got a yellow, fair enough, but Byram was a definite red - Bertrand kept him on the pitch by not rolling around and it was worse than Vic's

It would appear that Clatt has it in for us and Vic in particular. Perhaps we should jump on the Arsenal band wagon and try to stop certain referees from officiating our games ? Both Clatt and Vic now have card happy reputations - one for giving and one for receiving !!

Very disappointing display...Fulham were the better side and in McCormack & Dembele had 2 top strikers...Midfield we missed Ale F and think would have helped if Henry came on to shore it up as we were being overrun before the first goal which Mcormack took well but had Smithies stood up he would have saved it...second and third goals awful defending.. Second half better but game over by then...think Washington and Elkayati did ok...Foolham could have had a fourth,,,,Chery goal small consolation for a poor performance....need to improve attitude for these derby games which was as most of LR sang was embarrassing

I guess we went there for a draw or a 1-0 with that highly defensive set-up. It certainly seems to work even if it doesn't look very attractive. This is how you win trophies no doubt but we never looked under much threat from a poor Swansea side that had no clue how to break us down. Happy days! COYR
