Saints Confirm Arrival Of Japanese Midfielder And also His Loan To Goztepe
Tuesday, 30th Jul 2024 14:53

Modern football is such that many clubs have affiliations to clubs in other countries and of course Southampton owners Sport Republic are pursuing this route, now comes news of a signing who won't be spending much time in England.

The Daily Echo have announced the signing of Kuryu Matsuki from Tokyo FC, but he won't be staying very long as he has immediately been loaned out to our sister club in Turkey, Goztepe for the season and is expected to be joined there later in the season by our two Brazilians Wellington & Juan when they arrive in January.

Matsuki whose name in his own country is 松木 玖生, is a 21 year old ball winning midfielder with a valuation of £1.5 million although at the moment it is unclear just how much Saints have paid for the privilege.

松木 玖生 becomes the third player from Japan to join the club this summer, following 菅原 由勢 & 高岡 伶颯 , ok I'll stop it now Yukinari Sugawara & Rento Takaoka, who have arrived in the last few weeks.

Sugawara looks set to be a key player in the first team for the coming season with 17 year old Takaoka more involved with the academy sides,

Matsuki seems to be somewhere in between, he has experience but not at a high enough level to be ready for the Premier League, therefore he will be monitored at Goztepe in a move that will suit all parties.

I don't understand what we gain from doing this Why not bring him here and loan him out to an EFL club Or is this FFP version of a tax fiddle?

I am sorry Nick. I know I come from an age that probably no longer fits into modern football, though I do try not to be stuck in the past but I am a simply a one club person.

It's all about Southampton FC for me. I understand loans but I don't understand what we gain from purchasing and then immediately shipping out. I am not interested in clubs in Turkey or for that matter anywhere else and I don't want to help them particularly or be some sort of feeder club for them (I can partly understand being a feeder for more local clubs which may help local football or the community/economy).

For me, owners of my club should be focused on my club if they are not then they clearly don't completely invested in it (and I am not talking money here, I am talking about investing in it as what it means to Southampton the city, the people, the fans, the games etc).

I appreciate that you won't agree with me and many others won't but that is how I feel.
