Preston Could Be Five Men Down For Southampton Clash
Tuesday, 24th Oct 2023 08:18

Preston North End have not won in five games and the chances of ending that bad run are not going to improve with the news that they could be without as many as five first team players when they take on Saints on Wednesday night.

Hampshire Live are reporting that Preston are in the middle of an injury crisis, after an unbeaten start to the season where they drew one and then won 6 games on the bounce they took just 2 points from the following 5 games.

So having as many as 5 first team regulars missing for the visit of Southampton is not going to help their cause.

They will be missing Northern Ireland midfielder Ali McCann and defender Jack Whatmough, neither of whom will be fit to play a part against Southampton. McCann withdrew from international duty with a calf problem, while summer arrival Whatmough is out with a hamstring injury.

Central defender Andrew Hughes starred in 8 of the first 9 games for Preston, but he has missed the last 3 games with a hamstring injury and although close to a return, the Saints game might be a few days too soon.

Danish striker Emil Riis has suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee injury and is seeing specialists, while Liverpool loanee Calvin Ramsay is expected to be back training soon after his own knee injury.

Where have we heard that before and then only for the team with the injuries to grind out a 1-0 win against us? I could list a few.

Too true A1079! So lets have none of this 'we have to grind out results' nonsense. If our players are as 'brilliant' as Russell Martin thinks, lets have an all-out attacking approach

Wouldn't go all out attacking against these as they seemed to be a counter attacking team against Millwall. Too many times we've seen quick players leave our fall backs in the dust and score from their first shot let alone shot on goal. Play it safe I reckon but would love to see us spank someone. Just don't think it will be PNE tomorrow.

The longer a run lasts the nearer it is to ending That is as true for PNE as it was for us when we had lost 4 straight
Who would take a draw if it was offered?

Ive been a Saints fan for far too many years to get excited about an opposition's injury crisis - it doesn't usually end well for us!

PNE 5 best players down. We're in form with a 4 game unbeaten run. We should win easily and extend our run and go 3rd.

Oh........ RM tinkered with the starting 11 and the tactics and the subs, 6-0 to PNE. Never mind, don't complain.

Ah yes - the old 'opposition injury crisis' headline. My guess is that our points-per-match average after such a headline is no higher than after an 'opposition at full strength' heading.

Whatever the truth of that - this is a game we need to show progress in. A point wouldn't be a disaster but that is the minimum requirement.
