Brighton Striker Linked With Move To Southampton Tuesday, 29th Aug 2023 10:48 Saints, Leicester City and Birmingham City along with several French clubs are all said to be interested in acquiring the services of 24 year old Swiss striker Andi Zeqiri from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Andi Zeqiri has spent a lot of his time at Brighton out on loan but as he enters the final year of his contract, the Seagulls are looking to offload him on a permanent basis and several Championship clubs are interested according to footballleagueworld.co.uk
The 24 year old started with Lausanne in his native Switzerland and made his name with them in 2019.20 scoring 17 goals in 33 games to earn them Promotion back to the Swiss Super League.
That earned him a move to Brighton who paid around £4 million to sign the then 21 year old. He featured in his first season making 9 Premier League appearances off the bench, but failed to score and the following season he joined Augsburg in Germany on a season long loan. He made 22 Bundesliga appearances scoring twice and with two assists.
Last season he was back in his home country to join FC Basel for the season and in 30 League games for them scored 11 goals, but his best form came in the Europa Conference League where Basel reached the semi finals, he scored 5 goals in 11 games.
He has also won 8 caps for Switzerland
Now it seems that although he isn't in Brighton's plans, he is interesting Championship clubs including Saints, but how much of this is his agent trying to drum up interest is another story.
Personally I would say his record is not as good as that of Sekou Mara when he joined us and unless we sign a proven goal scorer should Che Adams depart, then we might as well give Sekou Mara a chance.
He is still only 21 and at times last season showed that he has a touch, vision and an eye for goal.

Sekou def worth a gamble. At times he goes missing and doesn’t look to have the aggression or strength, but like you said, Nick, I have seen glimpses of real talent. I thought after watching him score a hat trick for the u21s last season this division might suit him. However, I still think he looks a bit soft and he needs to strengthen up physically and mentally. If he can he could be some player. Big if.

Yeah Mara above this new fella all day long. Think tall Paul has taught us that scoring goals in other leagues that aren't top 5 means nothing. And Zequiri is not even doing that... 11 goals out of 30 games in the Swiss league is Pompey level. Keep Adams and if he goes, start giving Mara a chance to save Armstrong from injury.

"then we might as well give Sekou Mara a chance"* Just about sums up the current mood...... when all else fails......!!!

Why does it sum up the current mood, at St Mary's on Saturday the current mood was one of optimism, hope and enjoyment.

I dont know why we dont give tall Paul a chance, how anyone can judge him on the minutes he,s been given beggars belief.A big centre forward type is a must in the championship.

Letting Peraud go is ridiculous,he is a much better player than Manning,Iguess hes a bit too direct for this coaches preferred style.Iwould love us to keep Bella Kotchap hes gonna be a superstar.

We've now disposed of our best left back to keep RM's useless pet!! I agree with JoeE. I just don't understand all the excitement over playing 75% of our matches, even at home, in and around our own penalty area and hoping for a flukey late goal. We need a proven striker (Where have I heard that before??) There are 3 days left of the transfer window and, if CheA goes, we'll be short of any experienced striker apart from AdamA. We've received plenty of dosh. We could easily afford a £25M - £30M proven English leagues-proven striker. Just remember to give him the ball sometime!!!!

To add another point to seemingly pointless transfers, why the hell do we loan with options....many of the teams must be laughing all the way to the bank....many better off than us too. Loan to buy should NOT be an option. Its like having a year long test drive on a car you have no intention of buying

I wonder if the rumor mill is going full tilt because everyone wants some of the cash we've got from sales. Agreed with other posters that stars in other leagues don't necessarily make it in ours; any gambles we take on such players should be cheap ones (so clubs like Genk aren't laughing all the way to the bank in prying £19 million out of us for the likes of Tall Paul!).

I would rather get a striker with proven Championship scoring record. Or keep Adams. Tall Paul could score, but needs good high crosses to use his height. But no good at pressing, as not mobile enough.Bring him on last 10 mins chasing a game and bung in high crosses with men to pick up the knock downs. Good in defence as well!

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process. What’s the excuse going to be today Steve – shocking pitch, faking head injuries, Mexican banditry or some other bit of sour-grapery bullsh*t? Southampton Polls |
