No Chris Davies ! But are you really surprised ? Friday, 16th Jun 2023 07:15 by @Cornish67David Yesterday afternoons news that Chris Davies won’t be taking up a post as Swansea City manager wasn’t a huge surprise to some. He has spent his career as a coach or number two and the job at Swansea City was clearly going to test his mettle, and to be honest it was always going to be too big a role for him to fulfil. And possibly Swansea City felt so as well ? The formal or informal nature of the discussions with Davies may well have left Swansea in a position where they couldn’t offer him the job due to his lack of experience. On experience Steve Cooper had not a lot of that when he came to Swansea. Whatever it was the two were not compatible. Things happen for a reason. The Swans though haven’t put all their eggs in to one basket and we understand that Steve Cotterill recently resigned from Shrewsbury Town isn’t one of those under consideration at this time. The fifty eight year old from Cheltenham has managed ten clubs and we understand he was never in the running. Watch now as he gets announced ! The Swans are in no hurry to appoint a new man with Russell Martin still under discussions with Southampton. That has gone completely quiet but no news is just that, no news. Talk of Graham Potter, Ryan Mason and Brendan Rodgers can also be dismissed. Our man Liam broke the news on Rodgers returning to Celtic earlier this week, so the clubs majority ownership have reached a stalemate for now. Just where the Swans will now look is anyone’s guess, we were told that the new manager would be a UK based choice, but that can only go on for so long with this latest news. How long the talks with Davies went on for we don’t know, but he was quick to follow Ange Postecoglou to Spurs, a choice we wholehearted now agree with. A Swans manager needs to be up front and forthright which clearly isn’t something Davies wanted in his life at this point in his career. I thought this site did a remarkable job on their ‘watching brief’ feature on Chris Davies, he did seem to have all the attributes for the job, Swansea City have always been fairly successful in their managerial appointments since relegation to the championship so we have to have some faith in the next move. Whatever that is nobody is shining through this morning, no suggestions or contenders on the horizon, so it’s an open book again. And not a summer really goes by without frustration.
