Could Danny Ings Be Coming "Home" In An Exchange Deal ! Thursday, 7th Dec 2017 12:27 The rumour mill is saying that Danny Ings will leave Liverpool in January and Southampton could be one possible destination.
Danny Ings was born in Winchester and grew up in Netley and spent time on Saints books before being released and joining Bournemouth aged 16, Saints were linked with him when he left Burnley to join Liverpool and are now being touted again as a possble destination with his Anfield career looking to be nearing his end.
Ings is being linked with a loan move in January with Newcastle, West Brom, Crystal Palace and even Brighton touted as possible destinations, however Saints could also be an option and although Liverpool are resigned that selling Ings due to his large salary might not be possible just yet, hence the loan move rumours, he could form part of a possible bid from the Anfield club for Virgil Van Dijk.
Athough Van Dijk has looked happier in a Saints shirt in the last three games, the transfer rumours are going to start again in January and Liverpool having reached the last 16 of the Champions League and looking good in the Premier League to boot, will certainly be wanting to strengthen in January to try and land a trophy.
That could mean a big bid and part of that most certainly could be offering Ings as part of a package and to push a deal though Liverpool could be willing to pay Ings himself compensation to take a pay cut at St Mary's something they would be loathe to do in other circumstances.
Saints will have to consider just what would tempt them to cash in on Van Dijk in January given that they would be unlikely to be able to do so beyond next summer.
A straight cash bid of £65-70 million would test Saints resolve and if they have the right man lined up to replace him, would be very tempting, a figure of £55 million plus Danny Ings is the suggestion on the rumour mill that would be very hard to turn down should Liverpool put it on the table.
A year ago Saints fans would have said that any sale of Van Dijk would show a lack of ambition at the club to keep players, but the events of last summer not just with Van Dijk but other high profile transfer targets trying to force through moves unethically has perhaps changed that view for many.
Now Saints fans are starting to realise what the club are facing when they try to keep hold of players, now many feel the pont has been made and we hold the whip hand and that means selling him on our terms not just jumping at the first offer.
So although this rumour is at the moment just a whisper, it could grow as the transfer window opening looms

I would say that VD goes if we get an offer over his value. For me 70 mill cash and he can go tomorrow. 55 plus Ings doesnt seem enough. Ings has no reputation now after loads of injury issues and can't force his way back in so what's he worth? Plus Liverpool only pay 55 and they get rid of a player that is a problem for them. They are desperate for a CB so I suggest we take full advantage of them.

SonicBoom is absolutely right! When VVD is sold it has to be for full market value. If Saints took a washed up/overpaid player off the Scouse and gave them a discount on VVD, it would be another sign that Les has turned us into their farm team!

I think them getting through to the last 16 will have pushed up the price they will pay for him. But lets see who they get in the draw. There are not many centre backs who could make a difference in the CL available and we have the best option. So has to be 70m plus The ings deal has to be done in a loan with option to buy but is he any better than what we have ? Suppose it lets us strengthen the attack and wait till the summer when there willbe more options and better value.

I thought Liverpool publicly stated that there interest in VvD was over, in their official apology following the Tapping Up scandal. Anyway, as good as he was 2 or 3 years back, I am not sure that Ings will be anything like he was back then, having had an ACL on his left knee and also done his right knee in too. 6 league appearances and a couple of cup games in 2 seasons at Anfield due to injury, tells it's own tale. Not even sure if he has been registered to play this season, but there are so many ahead of him now and they probably want shot.

We already have an injury prone Charlie Austin so don’t want another one Ings so cash deal only unless they want to chuck in salah of course

"the transfer rumours are going to start again in January" - if only they did wait that long. Ings - no thanks

players stocks are based on performances and good ones at that, ings hasn't played for years so how can he be worth anything , keep vvd until the end of the season and then declare him for sale and let the auction begin I'd much prefer to get Walcott back just to add some pace to our side at times we are painfully slow and predictable

Why are we being linked only to washed up has beens. have we really sunk to that level in the eyes of the press?

I was an advocate of Saints signing Ings when he was able to be tempted from Burnley, but now he hasn't played for the best part of 2 years due to injury. We sold JRod in the summer because he'd had 2 years out due to injury and hadn't come back the same (love the guy and was desperately rooting for him but honestly, how's he doing at West Brom as a regular now?). Todays similarly post-injury unproven Ings plus £55m? No thanks; give us £70m and we'll have plenty of money to go and find our own - definitely fit - striker (and still have a decent defence) rather than take Liverpool's overpaid crocks off their hands, thanks.

When you consider the amount being touted for Coutinho I would be royally peed off we accepted 70 million for VVD, as for Ings no thanks. Hopefully lazy journalism.

? He makes JRod look like Ironman. Possibly we could do without Virgil now but it wouldn't hurt to wait to the summer.
