We only sing it when we're losing?

If you haven't been to ER recently, there is a chant which occasionally rings round ER to the tune of Sloop John B - which seems to have replaced the Pet Shop Boys "Go West" as the in thing to rhyme things too.

As a father with three of his young sons in attendance for today's win over Palace, I could not possibly repeat it - nor do I wish for Brian Wilson to sue me, although given his addle-brained performance at the Queens golden jubilee ten-years ago no doubt I could get away with it - but it goes along the lines of:

"Leave our club - Now...you person without parentage who will be eternally connected to a West London team (not QPR, Brentford or Fulham)."

There is also a rapid, almost manic "Bates Out! Bates Out! Bates Out!"

Both songs were given an airing before kick-off and early into the game, but they were probably at their loudest when we went 2-1 down.

Near the end of the game, they got a half-hearted attempt from mainly the Kop but revolution normally takes second place over dramatic victory snatched at the death.

From revolution to revulsion and Bates, in his programme notes, moves from "dissenters" to "morons" to "noisy little expressions of dissatisfaction". He claims to have been encouraged and "appreciates" the number of letters of support - before taking a sideswipe at ex-Chairman Bill Fotherby, now of Harrogate Town - Fothers apparently urged Bates to operate an "Open chequebook policy" pointing out the big success it was for the "Silver" board - Ken retorts that it backfired for the Ridsdale board (with other peoples money).

Ken also claims on a monthly basis, the club are approached by what he calls "con-men, middlemen, chancers and downright fraudsters" who disappear like a "snowball in the rising sun" as soon as capital is mentioned.

So there you have it, Ken is still in power, his austerity measures are necessary and securing the future of our club for "the benefit of your children and your grandchildren" meanwhile what many call his folly, the re-development of the East Stand still remains unfinished - although there are some nice panels up and panoramic windows with dining chairs installed no doubt offering fabulous views of the industrial units of Revie Road and the M621.

In another section of the programme, a nostalgia piece about 1991, the club recall it just took 12 weeks for Leeds to complete what is affectionately known as "The Cheese Wedge" erm...I think they are on about the South East Corner, no I have never heard it called the Cheese Wedge before!!!

I relish Ken's comments in next week's programme for the visit of Bristol City - maybe he will turn his venom towards lazy, unproductive builders?

Your now critising Ken Bates for calling the south east corner the cheese wedge. I've heard it called the cheese wedge loads of time. This is probs why he calls some fans morans!

The cheese wedge is well known at ER. Embarrassing article. I echo the above comment

Morans as in Kevin? Or Steve

Sorry it made you blush!

Actually if you bothered to read the programme and the article, the reference to the Cheese Wedge was not made by Bates but in a nostalgia piece about 1991. So I was not having a go at him

As a season ticket holder for 15 years between 1989-2004 and again this season, I never heard it called that and I tend to write on personal experience rather than rehash what I read elsewhere. Sorry must have led a sheltered life.

The cheese wedge it is then, when I book tickets again I will ask for "two in the cheese wedge" and if I end up with Jevaulx or Wensleydale I will personally hold you pair responsible and batter you both senseless with a camembert or brie (never known the difference myself) :-)
