Born Hammersmith Hospital. Lived till my early 20s on the White City Estate (Auckland, Blaxland and Bentinck) before short spells in Hanwell, Shepherd's Bush, and Camberwell before settling in Tulse Hill (15 years) and Wimbledon (22 years).

Like most posters on here, other than the Rangers, I have little connection with that part of London anymore which is sad but the reality. Nothing stands still.

I knew Liam Lynch was killed on the Knockmealdowns but wasnt aware of the memorial. His death more or less marked the end of the civil war. I must visit when next in the area.

What used to amuse my children no-end was Grubb's grave. He so liked the view over the Golden Vale that on his death he insisted that he be buried vertically. A queer thing indeed.

Amazing how much the rhododendrons have spread. There's much more there than when I was last there. Much as they are visually attractive, they aren't native and drive out native species.

If you were up that way did you ever visit Mount Melleray? Talk about getting away from it all.

Wild place up in them mountains Mr Sheen. I'm more familiar with Clogheen and going over "The Vee" into Lismore. We'd often do a spin down that way after lunch on a Sunday, perhaps heading for Clonea or Ardmore.

Very sad the passing of that generation. My parents too returned home in the late 1980s and are no longer with us. I should get over more often but it tends to be, sadly, to go to the funeral of cousins.

A great loss; I saw him a couple of times at the Barbican and once in France. A terrific live performer with great stage presence. Equally talented on the vibes as well as the saxaphone. A very sad day indeed.

Hi Brian, both my parents are from Tipperary Town. I was born and brought up in London but as with many others, spent the long summer holidays in Tipp.

I must get back as soon as this crisis blows over.

Hi Brain, I see you are from right down the Beara peninsula. I remember nearly 50 years ago driving over the mountain near Allihies with the grass down the middle of the road. Fabulous countryside.

He's gone on to play 330 odd games mostly at Championship level since. Perhaps not with the same promise he showed before the leg break. At the time I thought he defintely looked the business.

Wes Hoolahan. I think we tried to get him but there were contract issues and he went to Blackpool instead. Very creative and would have fitted in well with the Rs team at the time.

Martin Cranie. We had him on loan for a handfull of games and I was disappointed that we didn't sign him permanently. Versatile, good on the ball, dependable and a cut above most players we had on the payroll.

Book recommendations 2020.

I very much enjoyed McCarthy's Bar by Pete McCarthy. A very amusing writer who died tragically young.

McCarthy wryly described his school education by the Christian Brothers as "carrot and stick without the carrot".

Another with a London Irish slant is Falling Angels by John Walsh. Describes in a very amusing way his Catholic Irish upbringing in Battersea.

Both defintely ones to take back off the shelf for second readings.

I remember that Chelsea match very well. It pissed it out of the heavens all game. I was soaked to the skin having hung to the galvanised sheeting behind the School End. It was a season where nothing went right for us.

What hasn't been mentioned was that Keith Sanderson was a Cambridge football blue. My dim and distant recollection of him was as an industrious player who did a lot of the donkey work which allowed the likes of Rodney Marsh et al to shine.

My other recollection was that he broke his leg in a friendly match against Slovan Bratislava played in March 1968. The sound of fracture was audible in the stands!

Have been checking our best run-ins since I've been a supporter. It may bring back a few memories for oldies like me.

1968 6W 1D 2L = 19pts
1971 6W 2D 2L = 20pts
1972 6W 3D 0L = 21pts
1973 7W 1D 1L = 22pts
1976 8W 0D 1L = 24pts
1984 6W 2D 1L = 20pts
1989 6W 1D 2L = 19pts
1997 6W 1D 2L = 19pts
2003 7W 1D 1L = 22pts

Subject to other teams peformances, I think a run of similar results would get us over the line and into the play-offs. They are capable of it when playing like yesterday. Let's hope.
